Jay Checking Out the Newly cleaned pot of the Mandarin Orange tree.
I finally got around to cutting off all the dead plants from last year that took root in the large pot with the dwarf mandarin orange tree. I left a couple of sunflowers that are just growing. There are also what appears to be some wheat hanging over the pot. Left that also.
I dumped a little "deluxe" bird seed (has peanuts and raisins added) in the pot and this Jay came down to check it out and have a snack.

Nice to see a scrub jay without bands. Here in Central Florida they are so controlled that most have at least 3 or 4 different color bands denoting what county they were banded in. They photo well in soft shadows, good shot!

Thanks
Your Florida Scrub Jay is confined only to Florida and the population is decreasing so observation and banding are common.
Our California Scrub Jay is found from Puget Sound to the So tip of Baja Ca in large numbers so not much pressure to band and observe except for a few research projects.

Yeah, it doesn't help that they are so friendly. I have a friend that has a video of on her shoulder and eating out of her hand.
