It is a known fact that the purchase and possession of RRS gear confers on the holder great professional acclaim, unrivaled talent, as well as artistic and financial success.

But you are not done at $500. You still have to buy a tripod head and camera mounting plates, if you want foot spikes, $32 (for 3), and a tripod bag is another $65.

It's all about the name.

I am sorry, but unless you have seen and used RRS products, you have no idea what you are talking about. The quality of construction and engineering are unbelievable. You can trust your $4000 camera and lens to a cheap tripod, I am not about to.

Sorry, but I've had superb service from my $250 Manfrotto.

If you don't want to lay on your belly or find a wall to sit it on, you can pay up to a bit over $1500 for the tall versions. RRS makes really good stuff. Add another $500 to over $1000 for the ball head and other niffy toys that "you really need to have." The pano gear is great. Oh yes, you will find having a L-Plate for your camera a "must have" too.

Roger that. I bought the large Gitzo tripod from RRS about 10 years ago before they started making their own. The Gitzo is a fine tripod for the old D3 I had and the D810 I have now. Note that RRS products are made in the USA (well Utah now that they moved from California).

I understand your sentiment in regard to trusting your camera to a well-constructed tripod but in all honesty, would you really spend this kind of money when there are other tripods costing far less that will perform equally as well? And besides, what kind of damage could possibly happen to your camera from falling 6 inches? I'm being facetious.

Not sure to whom you are directing your reply, however, as for my comment, there is some validity to the notion that you pay for the name. That aside, RRS products are among the very best on the market today, and you do pay for the quality as well as the name associated with those products. That said, it's hard to justify that amount of money for a table top tripod, but then, as you say, if you spent $4000.00, or more, for your camera, $500.00 doesn't seem like that much. And if one is a professional photographer, only the best available will do.

I would say that for the limited market for a tripod that size, the price is the only way they can make money!!!
I won't say what I paid for my Gitzo, it goes from an approx low of 10" plus the head to 9' plus head was a bargain!!!!! Plus the Wimberly 200 head. Have I used it at 9'? Yes twice and maybe more to come
Model:GT5561STG use with The D810, 200mm macro and the Sigma 150-600 sport combos,( no longer shown on the web site.)I would have saved money purchasing this tripod years ago instead of trying many others, the first being a Flimsy Slik , with each upgrade I learned what not to buy. Besides The Gitzo I have a Manfrotto 055CXPRO4 that is for mainly landscape and And flash photography.

Not even if i had a bazillion dollars.
My under $100 tripod works great for what I need...
Of course my tilt-pan head was about $100 too.

I look at the RRS website at the different products then see what I need (I know the word need is not in the Photo Guys Dictionary.) Then I watch for the same gear used. I bought a Gitzo GT1555T and still haven't recovered from sticker shock. Did I really need (There I go again using incorrect words.) it. Well it is lighter than my other tripods, a small package, and comes with a very nice head. I use it quite a lot. I will say the RRS gear is top quality and there customer service is first class.

How cute! I want one to go with my RRS ball head. I am sure the quality is as good as you would expect from RRS. Looks great for travel. Especially if you’re short. Thanks for the lead.
