Waiting on the clouds to clear so I can finish getting the RGB. In the mean time, wanted to see how the Lum came out.

This is 203 lights if 90 seconds each, 150 flats and bias, 50 darks. Shot with ZWO ASI1600M on AT10RC. Gain = 300, Offset = 50.

What is your F/stop? Are you using the 11 inch at F/10? Reducer? The ASI1600 just blows my mind how I can get by with 10, 30, 60, 120, and 180 exposures when I am in between F/7 and F/4 with sharp virtually noiseless images by doing what you are doing and running the gain up to 300 and I use and offset of 65 when I go that high.

It sure allows for a lot more data given the short nights. If I was using the Atik383L I would be shooting 5 plus minutes at F/7 to get data with more noise and less detail.

CMOS sensors are going to be around for a while methinks.

Now, that being said, great capture! I look forward to seeing your RGB when added.

John Risa sent me these settings after he had spent hours collecting data on the ASI1600MM-C

Gain 0 ->Offset 10
Gain 75 ->Offset 15
Gain 139 ->Offset 21 (Unity)
Gain 200 ->Offset 50
Gain 300 ->Offset 65

Thanks Ed. The scope is f/8. I started getting the Blue, and was using same gain/offset, but taking 120 second exposures.

I’m not looking forward to combining the L with the RGB, my last attempt wasn’t very good. But i’ll Soon find out. I have to nail it down, the amount of detail these mono cameras get is amazing.

Do you use PixInsight?

I go back and forth between PI and PS, sometimes PI doesn’t work very well for me. I’ve had problems aligning images, especially when they have a meridian flip as well as DBE and ABE. Most my images happen around meridian, due to lack of open sky.

I’m not very comfortable doing masks in PI. I know I’ll get over that part, it’s just that so many times I punt and go back to PS. Once I have the color, I will try PI again. I do like the great job it does with noise/rejection during the process of creating master bias/flat/darks as well as the final stacking.

Watch these two videos and you will have everything you need to prepare an image for final tweaking in PS.

If I have decent data, even I can't screw it up!

Looks Great! Lots of detail in the core.

Thanks Tony. Looks like I have some clear skies so I’ll be able to get the color. I’ll follow Ed’s Linked videos and hopefully PI will work out.

I have been in the PixInsight learning mode myself. I have found the Adam Block tutorials excellent but require a tremendous dedication of time and effort to watch and absorb all the material. Especially for an old fart like me! I find myself going back to CCDSTACK and Photo Shop which seems much easer by comparison. However most of the “experts” in my club seem committed to PI as the better way to go.

You got a good test there , I'm still working on m101 if the sky would ever clear and stop crying.23 out of 50 Luminance @ 60s each is all I could grab so far shooting through clouds and holes in the clouds.Mono Cmos cameras are the real deal for capturing detail in shorter exposures Brian . I haven't had the best of luck with the weather but, hopefully you'll be able to collect all you need , I can tell the difference in the exposures between yours and mine . I'm hoping that I can finish collecting before the Pinwheel gets captured by a big ole Oak tree . Kudos
