I know baseball is pretty big in Japan and South America also, but it's not a riddle, and most people have seen it many times whether they understand baseball of not. In fact I think someone who didn't understand baseball would have recognized the story since home runs have been played endlessly for decades on TV and they would be very curious about this guy running in a square and only the two guys at the start were wearing masks, then again they wouldn't understand what "home" is, so maybe you're right about that. But that's not the point, that's just how someone showed me how my programming block my mind from seeing any other scenario. I wanted to see if some of the creative people here would see it, or if it didn't matter for creativity or what others thought.

You probably picked the wrong forum for creativity in answering your question.
As you have discovered, there are a great number of anal retentive Canon shooters and PC users on this forum and you have seen some of them in their responses. Not all photographers are creative--many are very good technically and know the equipment, but still cannot produce a merit image worthy of winning an award.

I thought it was a great riddle and if ok, I'll use it for some fun.

MauiMoto - An interesting riddle, but how does it relate to the subject of this forum - Photography? Next time you might want to post items like this in the Chit-Chat section.

Hmm. On my copy of the forum this morning, it was posted in the chit-chat section. Unless your copy is different than mine, perhaps fact-checking is in order.

Again, the OP posted it in Main Photography, and Admin moved it to Chit Chat.

I heard, a while back, that we're all a little brainwashed and it was proven by this short story.
I am wondering how much that brainwashing affects my creativity and ability for complex reasoning.
So here is the short story that I could not picture in my mind. If you heard this before please don't answer and give others a chance to question their brainwashing.
A man leaves home running, turns left at the corner and keeps running and turns left at the next corner, at the next corner he turns left again and runs back home where two men in masks are waiting for him.
What's the scenario?
I heard, a while back, that we're all a little bra... (show quote)

Never heard of it, but, considering one of the US passions,
I would say he was playing Baseball... (?)

This is the most ridiculous/inscrutable discussion I've ever read on this forum!

I'll take a shot at answering your questions. There are several of them. I seldom go into the Chit Chat section but I saw this in The Photography section.

1. Yes we are all brainwashed from kindergarten on, but many come to their own conclusions about life, politics, religion and love and find their own belief system. They reject the brainwashing they don't agree with and keep the brainwashing they agree with. The brainwashing is the raw material and our belief system is what we do with it.

2. Are "creative" people less brainwashed? I don't think so. They are just brainwashed in their own way.

3. Does brainwashing interfere with creativity? Obviously not, because creative people reinforce their brainwashing with their creativity (eg. Nazi propaganda was most creative, as is all propaganda).

4. How does creativity work? I believe it works as a mechanism of problem solving. Creativity doesn't spawn ideas, creativity is a byproduct of using your brain to solve a particular problem or reach a goal. It's stretching your brain beyond what it already knows. An example is solving a math problem, or building a bookshelf, or editing a video.

5. Not that you have a digital camera, and since you have a background in it, why not get involved in making videos? I find the whole process of making videos, shooting, lighting, editing videos and sound to be a very creative exercise.

I already answered that, the same brainwashing everyone else is exposed to, and I don't know how or if it affects creativity, that's why I'm asking. The story was just to prove how we're all programmed. You can also see the deeply brainwashed get all offended and just prefer to shut it down, instead of help, they're not even curious, since they already think they know it all.

so, if you don't know you're brainwashed, you're brainwashed; and if you DO know and protest, you're even more brainwashed!

I think Harry Chapin was touching on this relationship between 'brainwashing' and creativity when he wrote the song "Flowers are red". The song and lyrics available here:

Great timing. Just this morning, my son "corrected" my grandson for coloring an apple purple. I wish that I had had this song, but I will surely give it to him tonight.
