There are lots and lots of choices. I've never had one fail, but I have replaced my router when new technology came along. I never paid a fortune, and they always worked fine. I can't imagine paying $400 for a router, but some people have special needs. I got this little range extender, and it works great. it cost $23 last August, but now it's $75 - not much of a bargain.

Thanks, I went on Amazon and found one in my price range with the best reviews. Think it should meet my needs, it’s the TP-Link AC1750 Smart WiFi Router - Dual Band Gigabit Wireless Internet Router, sounds impressive lol, we’ll see!
Cost: under $65.00

In February I had to get a new router.
(WIFI connection problems- old one was ten years old.)
Got a Linksys at Target for $64. Works great!

I’ve had a Linksys for about 12 years and it has always done the job but about a month ago a nearby lightning strike took out several of my appliances and security gate, ever sense my WiFi has been acting up, guess the lightning messed up its little brain

Or degraded it and is now surfacing...
12 years, not bad for 24 hour use.

Years and years ago I had a lightning strike actually smoke a component on a modem CARD in a desktop. Heard the snap from the tower. Came down the phone line.

I was a Linksys fan until it was sold, I then tried TP-Link for normal house use and they have been great. Nothing to complain and are affordable where I live

Yes, it is still a great brand. But where I leave I found TP-Link more cost effective nowadays and have been happy with all their products so far.

Why does the ISP you use not provide a new one free? My provider, Virgin, supplies a new one every year or so, entirely free.

Free? Comcast rents them to you. I buy my own. Same with the cable modem.

And at least where I live, the one provided (here they are actually free) is very basic. I still have to use the provided one, but just as modem and in bypass mode.
