Every Memorial Day weekend, the pavement in front of our Mission in Santa Barbara is transformed by street chalk painters. They labor over the tarmac in the Mission plaza using pastels on pavement to create 150 vibrant and colorful, large scale images. The idea for this festival came from our sister festival in Grazie di Curtatone, Italy. The festival benefits the Children's Creative Project, a nonprofit arts education program of the Santa Barbara County Education Office. This year, the paintings are threatened by the unseasonable rainy weather, but the artists persevere!
The artists are very talented.

They really are incredibly talented! And their art is so short-lived, but beautiful!
