King Vulture

When we arrived in Boca Tapada our guide for the area immediately asked if we wanted to photograph some King Vulture. With day light burning and nothing else planned but to shoot wildlife, we took him up on the offer. It was still early morning with the sun to our backs but not high enough to place the birds in direct sunlight. Looking at the photos, I remember now that a morning shower was moving through as well. I've never seen one outside of zoo. They are some good looking, butt ugly birds...
Thought I would start my show & tell of Costa Rica with the ugly first....

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. From my perspective the king vulture is one of the more colorful and impressive of the avians. Great images. Were they at a carcass, I note a full crop on the bird in the tree.
