Photoshop CS5 and Apple High Sierra, no?

I am about to totally abandon PSCS5, since I have a new iMac with High Sierra. I cannot print from PSCS5, for it shuts down immediately when I press Command-P (PRINT). So I cannot print from it. And yesterday, while abstracting an image, CS5 shut down unexpectedly. It is a driving reason why I'm now studying Affinity Photo. Is anyone else, who owns PSCS5, experiencing similar behavior on an iMac with High Sierra?

I've had a Mac for a couple of years and have found that each time I upgrade from one version to the next I have issues with printing. Or should I say the inability to do so. But it was the print driver not the program itself, and it took a while for Apple to upgrade the drivers, I recently upgraded to Mojave And have yet to try and print anything. cross my fingers wish me the luck That being said in Mojave they've also up dated an app that allows Mac to look for duplicate photos which they hadn't in the past just a sidebar.

Dyximan, you've given a supportive argument to continue to update the OS. After all, they are free. However, nearly every time I upgrade the OS, I either lose a piece of software or hardware. Yes, software company usually offer an upgrade to match Apple's new OS, but hardware? I had to buy a new scanner, and had an excellent scanner 'all dressed up, and no place to go'. The new iMac, with High Sierra cost me a scanner and a Wacom tablet. The new Wacom? $375. Almost daily I receive a tab to yet, upgrade to an even newer OS. Why would I do that? What would it offer me, except to possibly lose something yet again.

Elliott937 - Rather than switch horses to Affinity, you might want to consider another free-standing Adobe product known as PS Elements (“PSE”). There are a number of good photographers here who use it and report that they are very happy. Note: that you may still experience delays associated with OS upgrades, but a little patience should pay off. PSE is currently available from B&H Photo and other vendors for $69.99. An alternative version which includes Premier Elements for movie editing is available for $99.99.

Thanks for the idea. Considering that I've invested more than $1,800, with $600 in the original, and then every upgrade up to CS5, I'm rather exhausted by Adobe.

I have to tell you, Affinity Photo looks amazing.

I do have CS5 ext. and I never had any issues of any kind with it, but I do have a PC ( went away from Mac years ago)!

Thanks for your feedback. Your using a PC is probably why you are not experiencing my conflicts.

What were you expecting?

you are trying to use 9 yr old software on a brand new computer from a company that bases it's business plan on obsolescence.

I would consider Affinity a step down.

Planned obsolescence is of no surprise. Perhaps I will learn that Affinity Photo fails to meet my needs, but so far, I'm finding it to be very well equipped. And the price? Remember, back in 1990, Photoshop began at a very reasonable price too.

Consider, as I watch and read all UHH members, and see about once a month, or more frequently, request for help since the PSCC "update" has caused countless problems for members. The dialogue settles down in a week or two, and then there will be a new "update" of PSCC ... and then returns a new round of members asking for help as they experience problems with PSCC. Now, keep in mind, I'm a long time believer of Adobe products. I've been angered for years when I'd hear people, say over and over again, how they ""have Photoshop on their computers, but paid nothing"". For that reason, I don't blame Adobe to switch to a pay-as-you-go. But I am bothered by all of us loyal customers who have paid full price, and paid full price for updates. For many here, PSCS6 serves all their needs. For others, PSCS5, all the needs continue to be met. So seriously, why, would that investment be tossed aside?

I have several Mac computers, all for various needs...I have a dedicated system for printing. It's an old G5 running Tiger and I print with CS3 to an Epson 7800. All these years I have been very fortunate.

Yes, same exact thing for me and LR6 shuts down as well, so I am not happy I updated my OS to High Sierra. CS5 and LR6 were both just fine for me and I really don’t care about the new additions in the later versions and I use other software for RAW conversion. So I am not real happy about having to scrap over $1k worth of software just because of updates that really don’t provide a benefit for my needs. The cost of having to go to the subscription model is really no issue....it’s just that I was getting along fine with what I had.

And what we both 'had' was rather perfect, in my opinion. You and I have invested a rather significant sum of money on purchasing. What does bother me, though, are members here who ridicule us for standing behind an ethical opinion.

Normally, I do not respond to the ridicule or sarcasm I frequently see from some UHH members, but by us remaining silent gives credibility to those who practice those methods. I hope you, Goober of Pennsylvania, join me in expressing a higher degree of respect.

I have more than 14 books I've purchased on various PS topics. All excellent. And I believe PS continues to be an excellent program. If it were not because of the conflict between PSCS5 and my new iMac with High Sierra, I'd still be using Photoshop, gladly. It is that conflict that pushes me toward Affinity. I am not sad about that. Besides, as every human ages, it is very healthy if we all continue to study and learn new things. It is great Brain Food, great Brain Health.
