This little guy was literally under my feet while I was photographing other critters. He/she was on a bridge abutment just twittering away. I tried to catch some of them while they were flying but that proved to be an exercise in frustration. I know it can be done because I've seen tack sharp photos of them while in flight. I'm just not there yet. vz

But s/he's pretty right where s/he is anyway. The colorfulness probably indicates a male, doesn't it...

I can sympathise! Spent several hours over three days in two locations trying to get a good BIF of barn swallows and tree swallows. Nothing worth keeping resulted. They're fast and small and don't seem to pass by closely very often at all. Pretty challenging assignment but I haven't given up yet.

Probably a male. I too thought he was a pretty sight and photo worthy. vz

Thanks McFleye for weighing in. I do know a certain way to get a bif swallow. This would involve setting up a photo trap as they exit or enter a known nest area that would trigger strobes and cameras prefocused on certain areas. This would probably result in much better chances of getting a keeper but still involve a lot of time and effort. vz

Such pretty birds! And yes, I feel your pain. My BIF are always blurry! I’ve yet to capture the kite who lives behind my house in focus!

Nice, vz. I've tried to get them in flight, too. No good ones yet.
