SONY a6500, should I buy it?

I've been very satisfied with the performance of my SONY a6000 but wish to upgrade. After researching many models and even some full frames, I've decide to step up to the SONY a6500. I purchased one yesterday, but will be returning it because the lens doesn't click into place.
There was just this "body only" available locally. (It seems Best Buy is pushing the new 64000). I am curious as to why SONY came out with the 65000, then the 64000 afterward. My question is:
Can anyone share their experience with the 65000, good or bad? I've read some negative reviews from customers, as per usual. It's a big investment for me. I would appreciate anyone who cared to respond.

I have the a6500 camera for over a year and am completely happy with it. The quality of pictures are outstanding, and I am very happy with the low light performance of the camera.

I just recently purchased the a6400 and I am very pleased with the photos I am getting. My local camera shop suggested the a6000 since video wasn't an issue for me. I went ahead and did a bit of research. The big advantage to the a6500 is the in body stabilization. The new a6400 on the other hand has an upgraded focus system but no in body stabilization. For me, the focus was more important than the IBIS.

It seems to me you should try to define just what you are looking for in an upgrade so you can determine whether the a6500 will provide what you want. Since I'm new to Sony, I imagine others will be able to give you much better information.

I agree with Cwilson341. For many, the faster focusing feature is more important than IBIS. In fact, unless you plan on using non-native or other non-stabilized lenses, IBIS isn't all that important. If you have older, non-stabilized lenses or brands that don't have it, then the IBIS is good to have. The A6500 has more focus points than the A6000 and an upgraded processor. The same goes for the A6300, which I have. I got the A6300 because I wanted the metal body and weather "sealing.". Also, image transfer and buffer clearing are faster thanks to copper wiring. The A6400 offers faster focusing, but loses IBIS, but unless that's a serious consideration, at least for me it wouldn't be a deal buster. Personally, if I were to upgrade, it would likely be to the A6400. It's newer, faster, and less expensive.

I’m planning to keep it around so that my granddaughter can go out with me. I will keep you in mind if I change my mind. Happy shooting!

Sony Alpha Rumors reports that an upgrade to the A6500 is expected some time this year.

An A6500ii would most likely have the better focusing sensor of the A6400 plus IBIS. If true, expect to see discounts on the A6500 in the next couple of months. However, focus speed depends on the lens too - not just the sensor.
Personally, I would opt for the current A6500 over the A6400 if the price came down a bit.

The in-body stabilization function in the a6500 is "five axis" stabilization, and so is more sophisticated than available in-lens stabilization. But at least for me the faster auto-focus in the a6400 is a more important feature. Especially true if you are not using legacy glass with the e-mount camera body.

I'm satisfied with my a6000 - just $550 with the lens. Paying a lot more for the a6500 would not be an advantage for me. However, you are not me. If you think the a6500 is right for you, return it and get one that will accept a lens. As for the naming of the 6400 and 6500, that's a mystery that I bet even Sony can't explain.

The question here is this, are you able to shoot the subjects you usually shoot with the A6000? You are saying you are very SATISFIED with its performance.
Save your money for a good lens would be my best advise.

I recently purchased a used 6500. It is fantastic. I especially wanted the 6500, as I also shoot video. Amazing image quality. Couple of niggles. Battery life is the worst, and the multifunction selector wheel on the back is terrible. Owned a bunch of cameras over the years, and this one's well worth the trade off.

I moved to the 6500 from the 6000 and have been happy with it. The focus system is a significant upgrade over the 6000, and works much better with my legacy canon glass, and I’ve picked up some great deals on manual wider angle lenses too.
I havent seen any issues with focus speed, and the ibis is a big deal for me as I get older. Would recommend Gary Friedman’s guide, he does a great job on all the Sony cameras.
