I know, I know... it seems like an overkill on tanagers, but here's some statistics on tanager species:
U.S.=4 species
Costa Rica=36 species
Panama=55 species
Brazil=68 species
Ecuador=83 species
Columbia=98 species
Black-chested mountain tanager, Ecuador
Lemon-rumped tanager, Ecuador
Golden-chevroned tanager, Brazil
Palm tanager, Panama
Olive-green tanager, Brazil
Golden-naped tanager, Ecuador
Silver-beaked tanager, Brazil
Wow great set. I was just happy to snap and post my first ever image of a scarlet tanager a short while ago. Some interesting facts on their species population dispersal. Thanks for sharing. vz

With such great images it is not overkill. Thanks for posting.
Thank you. I stand corrected (and I'm embarrassed as I should have caught that!)
Not a problem. I cannot point any fingers because I have my share of missteps.
On a different note, a friend of mine just returned from Colombia and is publishing: "A Field Guide to the Birds of Colombia", in it she suggests that there are 1,932 species, mostly due to the varying habitats she found there. Here's the link to her artil\cle:

Definitely not overkill! Envy your travels to obtain great photos like these. Your photos again do justice to these beautiful birds. I find that even at feeders these birds are not so simple to shoot. Some of them (Lemon-rumped and Silver-beaked for example) have such intense colors mixed with black that good exposures are tough in all but the most subdued light.
I have found that some species that are widespread geographically have significant differences in coloration from one spot to the next. Sometimes hard to believe they are the same species.
These are all so beautiful. I spend lots of time in Ecuador, and I don't remember seeing any of these. But then, I'm not a birder.
What a lovely set. I had no idea that there were so many different species.
