What am I doing wrong

Taken this morning. Very basic setup 7200, 60mm Micro Nikor, combination of natural and LED light, 1:1. Settings 1/20. F10, ISO 200, Manual, Spot Metering. Focus seems ok but the base of the shell should be silver not brown. Everything I took this morning had a brown cast to it.

I'll recommend LED light only. Check the light's specs and set your camera's white balance to the LED's color temp. See how that works for you. Good luck.

Either color correct in PP or use correct color balance or use ALL the same lighting !

I would question f10 for such a flat subject.

You have a few problems.

1) You've posted an uncalibrated colorspace JPEG.
2) The white balance in the attachment is 'manual'. It's unclear from the attachment if this was from the camera or your edits in PS CC.

Pull the attachment into LR and adjust -20 on the temp and -15 on the tint and see if you prefer the update. Assure you're working from a calibrated monitor. Take the two sliders down further if desired. Try <Auto> for the WB in LR for a good first guess by the software.

Thanks all. This is not an easy discipline to get started in.

Not being a smart a.. I really don't know.

How is it possible to work with only one light source? I will not be working with a two dimensional target in the future. The room has natural light but not enough for the DOF I would like to get. Flash is out of the question at this point, hence IKIA LED lights. Is the light conflict something that can be fixed in PP.

What is an uncalibrated colorspace JPG is. I did no PP other than convert to JPG.

Thanks all. This is not an easy discipline to get ... (show quote)

How to work with only 1 light source? Make your pix at night. Use something between your object and the window to cast a shadow on your object - even stand so your body casts a shadow on your object.

Is the light conflict something that can be fixed in PP. - Maybe - that will depend on how 'different' the light sources really are. LED lights can be really close to daylight quality. I've seen LED lights with color temp ratings from about 3000K to 6000K, which is close to the range from 'normal' incandescent bulbs to direct sunlight. What PP softwear do you have? How 'skilled' are you using it?

Can you post a non-macro photo of your shot gun shell for reference?
