Hello i was just wondering if anyone can answer this question. I have a nikon 810 the eye piece part that the cup is connected to that has a small screw to hold it in place got hit and cracked at the screw making it able to fall of very easy. So i went to a nikon dealer where i purchased it . He told me that nikon does not sell any parts no matter how simple it is to repair. It needs to be returned to nikon at a minimum fee of like 200 dollars and they will do a cleaning checkup repair the problem and imasked to have the latest firmware update . i sent it out dont know how much it will be yet this just happen yesterday. Does this all sound right?

I am not sure but call Nikon.
Yes, Nikon does have a policy of not selling repair parts. Only to authorized Nikon Repair Facilities. A simple repair, it appears you have. I would go to a local Nikon Repair Facility, and see if they could fix it without a high cost. If, you send it in to Nikon, they probably will repair, and give your camera a cleaning, and operational checkup. Whenever you send a camera to Nikon. Prepare to pay more than expected. I've been lucky. My Nikon warranty has long expired, and I haven't had to send my camera in for any repair. Not yet.

Call Nikon at 1-800-645-6687 and ask them. Impress upon them that it is only a part and that is all you need, as them for an estimate. Stay clam and professional though out you conversation. You never know what deal you can weave. Stranger things have happened.

Excuse me, Scott, what does “imasked” mean? Please, no answers from anyone other than Scott. Thanks.
I am not sure which part you're talking about but if you can remove and replace it easily I believe Nikon would sell that part to you.

Nikon absolutely sells parts to anybody, just not internal parts (directly through their parts website). Have you got a pic of what you need?
Sorry rj that was a typo " i asked" not imasked

Yes, that's Nikon USA's policy as of several years ago. With the exception of a few mostly cosmetic items (such as grip covers or the door over the battery compartment), they will not sell replacement parts outside their own authorized repair network. That includes their factory stores as well as some 15 or 20 shops around the U.S.
Supposedly Nikon does this to "assure quality repairs" and not to have monopolistic control over the cost of repair parts and labor. It especially effects so-called "gray market" items, because they refuse to work on anything imported in that manner, and independent repairers cannot buy repair parts if needed.
Thankfully, it doesn't sound as if your camera is gray market. So you may have some alternatives....
Look on the Nikon website for their authorized repairers and see if one is local to you.
There's sort of a "black market" of Nikon repair parts now, made necessary by Nikon USA's policies. It includes used parts taken from donor cameras as well as replacement parts manufactured by third parties. It's possible the part you need can be sourced elsewhere. An alternative might be to repair the parts of your camera. A local camera repair shop may be able to do that for you.
sharks !! , could something like crazy glue work . when i was working on car , a snap on tester part failed , very easy to replace , they refuse to sell me the part . so , i never bought their product after that , that was in the lower 80 s .we , the people need to take action against the sharks .

Computer repair by HP is minimum $360. Ridiculous. Manufacturers do this to force you to buy a warranty from them, which is a high-profit item.
