Please describe the setup. br br ##############Se... (show quote)

I have given classes at my house how to do this. I only met one man who had the dedication needed. He drove 300 miles to attend a class then later sent me a photo of his attempt.

It requires:

1) patience.
2) willingness to put the effort into it.
3) deep pockets to buy all the flashes, good, lens, etc.
4) cat like reflexes.
5) an ability to learn from your mistakes.

In one 3.5 hour effort pre-focused on the area in front of the feeder, it took me 400 images to get one nearly as good as yours.

Thanks for sharing your 'secret set-up'.

My camera autofocus on the hummingbird for me. The camera need to be good/quick at auto focus. I tryed and gave up on pre-focus years ago!

Just a little observation.
A flowering fuchsia . They seem to have fallen out of favor.
I don't see them at the garden shops anymore. Beautiful plants.
Phenomenal pics, btw.

I did take the picture of the plant, hanging at that location, and then had a giant life size transparency made. A synchronized flash lights up the the inside of the white box. Otherwise the light fall off is so extreme that I would get a totally black background. I think of it as "layers" but not done in PhotoShop.

There so many tricks needed to take these photos that I have a hard time remembering them all. It's a bit of a magic act.
