Olympus OM-10 Mark II Problem

I recently bought this camera and I am quite happy with it. I have experienced one glitch and I am hoping another user may be able to help me. At this time I am unable to make the built in flash or any external flash work properly. When I use the pop up flash to take a picture all that records is a black screen indicating no exposure. The flash does fire but There is nothing recording. I suspected an out of sync problem but there isn't even an available light image. This problem exists in all modes including full manual. I have looked at every single available menu to see if if have an incorrect setting but I find nothing. The camera is brand new with less than fifty actuations, most of those trying to get the flash to work. When shooting without flash everything works well and the images look good. I have tried using the hot shoe with an external flash with the same result. The results made me think I had forgotten to remove the lens cap. (Not the case). Has anyone else experienced this problem and if you have have you been able to correct it? Any help will be greatly appreciated. I do not want to return the camera if I am simply being a dummy.

I recently used a camera (forget what brand) that required me to turn the flash on in the Menu before it would fire.
