Dying queen, dying robber fly and a tiny puffy leaf hopper

These are from this morning. I noticed the robber fly on the patio table. I was amazed that it didn't fly off after a few flashes. Then I noticed it was missing a leg and had an eye issue too. The carpeter ant queen (I think). It also was not moving much. The leaf hopper is super tiny, but they are my favorite challenge.

Yep. I think it's a horse fly. But still - nice shots!

Yes, from the family Tabánidae.
Many common names. Horseflies, deerflies, and if you have lived on lower Eastern shore a slew, of names I would not print here.

PS, not sure but both sexes may bite.
