New San Disk microsSDXC Extreme UHS-1 Card

I just bought a new 64 GB card for my Sony DIS-HX300, put it in the camera and the screen tells me to reinsert the memory card. I've done that 3 times and it keeps telling me the same thing. There is a very small card that came with the normal size card and I assume it is the adaptor that came with it. Have no idea what that is for or where it is supposed to go? What am I doing wrong?

If the memory chip is a micro, you did put the micro in the adapter card before inserting the adapter into the camera, correct?

The "very small card" is the actual memory card; the "normal size card" is just the adaptor. Put the small card into the normal card and insert both together into the camera.

Also, check the switch on the side of the card (and on the adaptor) to be sure it's in the unlocked position (up.) Should work fine.

Thank you! I NEVER would have figured that one out. Seems to be OK now. For a while there I was thinking that I'd bought the wrong type of card. I matched the adaptor up with the older Pliny card I had and all the little notches matched fine. Thanks again, you saved my bacon.

Up? Closer to the contacts or farther away?

Well actually you did by the wrong size card. Usually the micro SD's are for cell phones, dash cams and similar electronics and the adapter is so you can plug into a card reader and download the content onto your computer. What you should have bought is a standard SD.

It showed on the front of the blister pack that it was good for action cameras, advanced digital cameras, HD video and Smartphones, so, I figured it was OK. It boggles my mind that that tiny little card has 64GB in it. Amazing, just amazing.

There's nothing "wrong" with buying a microdisc. In fact, the ability to use it in phones and tablets, as well as your camera, makes it a good choice.

Besides the huge capacity, it is very fast - 80 MB/s - which can affect how quickly you can shoot.

If it is the adapter did you put the smaller card in the adapter?

No, I didn’t when I bought my GoPro! Had a laughing moment! Purchased two cards one for the DSLR and the GoPro and had them switched.

Mant cameras will not accept a micro SD even if you put it in the adapter. best to just buy an sd card.

You might have paid a bit extra for the miniaturization, since you get the same 64Gig storage whether it's on a tiny chip (which you insert into the adapter) or a much larger, probably cheaper to manufacture standard card. If it works, I think you should have no worries. I'm not aware of micro-SD having a shorter working life.

My new very thin computer has very small ports ... "Type-C" USB ports and a port to read micro-SD cards ... so I have purchased a micro-SD card + adapter for each camera, because the laptop will be the only computer I take with me to do backups on trips. Each of my cameras works just fine with the micro-SD + adapter combination. I wonder if future cameras might be built with micro-SD only slot to save space.
