Poor little dude had just been circumcised, and was really cranky for the whole shoot.

This was supposed to be the beginning of the "froggy pose" where it is a composite of 2-3 photos to get the cute one with his hands under his chin.

Well, it was just too much bending, and he'd had enough, so I just figured this pose was "out"

Mom's hand was on the "camera left" side of his face, and behind his forearm, so I had to draw in the upper arm and part of his face.

I'll still need to do more fine tuning, but I think this one may be salvageable.

Other than the fact that I need to still reduce the opacity on the shadow layers, any other glaring issues? I'm having a heck of a time working out the shape of his upper arms with the creases and folds. I looked at my own "fat baby" arms to try to figure it out, but figured, his wouldn't be as hairy...lol.

As always, I'm open to any suggestions, this is a personal project for me, as I was going to delete the photo, but his little tough guy face, really made me want to save it somehow.

The skin tones could do with some working on, especially the strong yellow and vivid red.

You've done fine--an arresting photo, and I can't imagine further color adjustments hurting it. However, there is a glaring perspective problem, minor, but there. To have the bucket where it is with the background, it would have to be floating. Just lower the black, perhaps to where the handle shadow ends.

Actually, the color cast is partially the work of UHH's jpeg compression. For some reason, nothing I ever upload shows up the same color wise as it does on my calibrated monitor that prints the same. But that's just some of the color shift. As I knew the "hand painted" parts weren't super realistic, I decided to get artsy, and tried to add some split tone coloring to jazz it up a bit, and maybe draw attention from the lack of dimension and the use of "add noise" to try to put some texture into the hand painted parts.

I will take it under advisement, to maybe offer the "creatively lit" one as it is, and a more "realistic" one, but it's a LOT harder to hide the flaws without texture and light changes.

Thanks for the input.

I have to admit, I'm not quite understanding what you are saying. Before my "artistic" (lol) choices with colors, textures, blending etc. I started with a photo of the bucket on a blanket in front of that background. The bucket/background isn't a composite, it's just several layers of texture, color shifts and some Gaussian blur to try to make it look like it belonged with the baby.

Can you elaborate a bit, maybe I'm missing what you are saying? The only real thing done to the bucket was that there was a piece of paper leaning on the bottom of the bucket and partially on the blanket that I had to clone out, is that the place?

Sorry if I'm being "thick" here.

Thanks again.

Sorry, but I think it’s kind of creepy☹️
Just my opinion, of course.

No offense taken. We all have our own tastes.

I looked again, considered what you said, was confused, and finally came up with a possible consideration: my mind. I "expected" the bucket to be on a flat, level surface. My poor mind was also affected by the texture, which did not read "blanket." AND the edge of the surface was irregular. Woe was me!

I guess the blanket did not conform to a flat surface and the texture is ambiguous. Since no one else is bothered by it, and even my befogged mind thought it a minor problem, it may be worth ignoring!

I do get what you say. I will often look at a photo that if one thing jumps out at me, forever, that's the only thing I see.

I appreciate the input, and will continue refining it before I actually present it to the parents with the rest of the photos. Honestly, I'm not 100% in love with it, that's why I asked my friends for input.

In the end, I may just scrap it, it's frustrating the poop out of me.

That made me laugh out loud. I'm guessing that if I had just been circumcised, and someone tried moving me all around, and putting a camera in my face, I'd probably have a grumpy look on my face too. Maybe even a middle finger flying as well. HAHA.

Now, the only thing I see when looking at this is grumpy cat.

Put both of the pictures up and you could become an internet sensation!

Both? Do you mean the SOOC version, or the bucket that seems to be an issue as far as the background being at the wrong level?
