What would you guys buy a Nikon 50mm 1.8 afs lens or a 60mm Nikon 2.8 D lens. What do you think is the better lens.I would like to get one of these lenses but I don't know what lens I should get, I have a D7100, your thoughts. Thanks James Bianco

What do you want to photograph with these lens? Low light street photography, the 50mm f/1.8 would be the lens. Portraits and macro, the 60mm f/2.8 would be my choice for a crop sensor camera.

Sounds quite right. Decide on your intended subject/s & go from there. The 50 1.8 is a fine lens in my experience. I don’t have the 60 micro, so no experience, to be fair. But can say of the 3 Nikkor micros I have, all do well for the stated purpose.
Will you be hand holding the camera or will it be on a tripod? The Nikon 60mm macro lens doesn't have vibration reduction. You might look into the Nikon 85mm f/3.5 DX VR macro lens. The vibration reduction can help when hand holding the camera. Also, with the 60mmm, you'll have to be pretty close to your subject. There's more chance that shadows will be a problem.
I used the 50mm 1.8 on a DX camera, I found the focal length to be kind of wierd for DX. 35mm seemed much better for DX sensor.

I think the 50 has better bokeh. Along with an F1.8 max aperture, it makes for better portraiture than the 60. The 60 gets you closer to your subject, and is extremely sharp at minimum focus distance - and it provides 1:1 magnification.
Two different lenses for two different situations - and not completely interchangeable.

Leica ASPH lenses on a Leica M camera is the best there is; street, portrait, travel, much of nature, much of studio and the list goes on - either film or digital.

There are 2 version of the 60 macro. The newer version is a superior lens. If you want macro capability I would get the 60.
