Amazon is a Nikon Authorized Dealer!

I have been looking at a Nikon D7200 on Amazon. The advertisement states that the camera is an "import" model. The price is good and it comes with two lenses and other assorted goodies. I have seen articles here on UHH and others on the internet about avoiding these import cameras. However, I just found this document that says that as of 5/19/19 Amazon is a Nikon Dealer. Is there something here that I am missing? I know from experience that Amazon backs the products that they sell but I don't want to stumble uninformed into a bad deal if Nikon won't honor a warranty because I bought it from Amazon. Any help really appreciated. The list is in the download. Thanks, Paul

Paul, I would contact Nikon Support directly and get it straight from the horse's mouth.

Thanks Don, I should have done that the first thing. I guess I was hoping to hear from some of our experts here on UHH.

No matter the brand, never buy "Grey Market" unless the equipment is disposable. The US importer won't fix it and won't sell parts to fix it, but you can return it to Japan. Don't hold your breath on that one! The chance of you ever seeing your equipment again are slim and none.

Authorized Nikon Dealer can sell gray market Nikon too. So when they say it's import then it's gray and Nikon will not warranty or fix it for a fee. (When they said it's import they meant gray market because all Nikon cameras are imported. There is no Nikon camera made in the USA).

I would take the ad at what it says and consider the camera in question as an import. Not every product sold on Amazon is sold DIRECTLY BY Amazon; many vendors sell through Amazon.

I feel confident that Amazon will stand by the sale, but I doubt Nikon USA will warranty a camera sold as an "import" if that's what its S/N shows on their records.

Thanks for all the quick responses. I used Don's suggestion and called Nikon Customer Support. I explained the ad and they said it is definitely a gray market camera and Nikon will not support it. It was being sold by a company called Eternal Photo with no address. There was also a note that the camera is covered by Amazon Customer protection. I think that refers to damage in shipping, etc.

Under the buttons that say "add to cart" and "buy now" it tells you who the seller is. I buy a lot from Amazon, but only when it says "Ships from and sold by Amazon". A lot of the D7200's being sold through the Amazon website are being sold by 'Liquid Deals'. Who????

Amazon is a Nikon Dealer. Many of the vendors are not.

Yes, I'd also look to see the actual supplier.

Quite often Amazon fulfills the sales for smaller independent retailers for inventories that Amazon itself does not maintain, for example I have bought from various vendors on Amazon, sometimes items kept at their fulfillment centers but I did not purchase directly from Amazon. Some of their vendors are authorized Nikon dealers but others may not be.... If the ad says it is grey market then you can bet that it is, carefully read all warrantee information, for grey market the vendor will generally ask that the item be sent back to them and not Nikon.

It has to do with service, not being a Dealer. Nikon's service centers will not touch grey market camera bodies or lenses. In Los Angeles, I am lucky to have access to independent Nikon repairs, so I have options. You may not.

Right. Adorama and B&H also sell "import" models.

Amazon could be a Nikon authorized dealer but if they sell a gray market camera that specific camera will not be covered by a Nikon warranty.
