My Epson Stylus Pro 3880 has suddenly begun to leave wet black ink marks down the right side of the print. Epson support had no insight. Anyone else have this happen? Thanks.
My Epson 620has the same problem at the top of each page occasionally. I run tools, printer maintenance, clean printhead? A couple of times then I run printer alignment also. Usually clears my problem
I don't have an Epson, but two things I would do if it was happening to me (Canon Pro-10):
1) Check and see if you should be using a setting similar to Canons "prevent paper abrasion", designed to open up the printing path just slightly. Designed for heavier papers.
2) Start storing your paper UPSIDE DOWN! This will help especially now, as the seasons change, and warmer and more humid weather is upon us, causing the paper to curl - ever so slightly - but enough to cause the problem you've described.
Also, if you're using a very thick paper, you may need to use a manual feed. As I said, I am not familiar with the Epson, but just maybe ...

Most Epson printers do not include the print head with the ink cartridge like many other printers do and are prone have clog and smear due to ink residue left on and inside the print head. I had one many years ago and after a couple of replacements now I stick with Canon and HP.
I'd check to see if paper is flat. I have an Epson 7880 and the humidity can curl the paper edges and get head strikes that leave black ink on the edge of the paper. I reverse the curl by carefully bending it the other way. The paper usually curls up at the edges.

My 880 did that (I think it was an 880). The print head cleaning pad was saturated. I eventually got an error message to that effect. I looked into ways to clean or replace and they were all just temporary fixes so I tossed the printer. Now I’m stuck with $200 worth of ink that I had just bought. Bummer.
Full waste ink tank, perhaps?
Curl at paper edges?

Some Epsons have a reservoir to collect overflow. If this is full you will have the problem you describe.
I am not familiar with the 3880 but it is sure worth looking into.
Oh yes I do. Went threw this in March 2019. I owned a R3000 for 4-5 years. Suddenly, it produced the same black streaks. I went to an authorized Epson repair shop. Tech told me how fortunate I was it lasted 4-5 years. My model is known to have this problem and a lot sooner in its life usage. The tube/gimmick that changes ink...deteriorates after so many yrs of usage and leaks. Estimate for repair: $200 for new gimmick, $200 for labor, and since the repair requires draining all the ink out of the unit...9 x $30-cost of new ink cartridges...$270...he said cheaper to buy a new unit...which I did! A Canon 100...not a pigment printer...but heck...great color images
I had clog problems with my Epson $700 for repair and problem re-occurred Now using Canon Pro 1000 & 100

I have the Epson 3880 and it does have a replacement type cartridge for storing ink that is used during startup and head cleaning.
I had that problem, too. Replace the maintenance cartridge at the bottom right-hand side of the printer. No more problem. Bought it from Amazon.

May need to open up the gap if you are using a thicker paper.
