I would like to make a suggestion

This section is dead, it never got off to a good start to start with, I would like to see it open up to where one doesn't have to own a lensbaby to post here.

I would like to see it named Artistic Photography, it doesn't have to be just flowers or closeups, it could be landscapes, subject matter is open.

We even could call it something else, What ever you wish or can think of, I think one reason it's dead is because only a hand full of people own a lensbaby and there not going to buy one just to post here.

Even the people that own a lensbaby don't even post here anymore for some reason or another.

Just a thought, What do you think? just trying to make it better and enjoyable.

Johnny

I agree with you, Johnny. This section has been slow from the onset, because it's such a specialized section, and not many of our people are interested in even signing up to have it appear on their home page. Will say more when I answer your PM, but I'm for all that you suggest here.

Since I took over as moderator of Post Processing Forum, I've been encouraging artistic use of processing. There are many topics now that are "how I did this" (layers, textures, filters, special effects, composite work) or simply sharing creative pp work. I encourage those of you who haven't been there for awhile (if ever) to visit!

As for a new section called "Artistic," there already is the Exploration of Digital Artistry section, an invitation-only forum created by Bob Yankle, though that has had very little traffic for a long time. Cwilson co-moderates. Maybe she can weigh in.

The main obstacle for any volunteer-moderated section is its invisibility. While new users to UHH are automatically subscribed to main discussion, Gallery, and a couple of others, in order to see a volunteer-moderated section (there are over 25 now, I think!) in "newest topics," you must subscribe.

Additionally, for those who rely on the Daily Digest, even when you're subscribed to specialty sections, they won't show up in the digest 'til you've logged into UHH.

Close-Up Forum may be the most active of the long-established volunteer-moderated sections. I've been trying to bring PP Forum from fewer than 20 topics per month in 2018 to an average of about 3 or 4 per day. This requires constant "advertising" and recruitment To compare traffic, main discussion can see 20 topics in a single day and Gallery has upwards of 50!

One last thought: even when someone is subscribed to a specialty section, they may decide that only receiving 2 or 3 comments on a topic is not worth their posting. Supporting a small community is not of interest to many UHH users.

I'll be interested to hear other viewpoints!

There is another section with the emphasis on "artistic" as well: For Your Consideration. Info:

In that section, constructive feedback is encouraged (as it is in PP Forum), though not required

I don't predict many viewpoints expressed here, Linda, because there just aren't enough folks signed up to visit the Lensbaby forum.

Maybe there are too many specialty areas. And some that overlap. I, as a relative newcomer and amateur, would recommend a return to simplicity. For example, landscapes can fall in Photo gallery instead of both Photo Gallery and Landscape Photography.

Landscape Forum is quite new and was a result of overwhelming (initial) interest It encourages constructive feedback, though many don't take advantage of the opportunity. Also, volunteer-moderated sections control and/or ban the trolls.

In Gallery and main discussion, you can "report issue" to Admin, but it takes a very egregious comment for him to take action.

How about Optical Artistry to include Lensbabies, Tilt-Shift lenses, Free-lensing, Prisms, Crystal balls, Special-effects lens filters, etc.?

I would happily subscribe - or stay subscribed, since I am already subscribed here 😊 But my primary interest and responsibility is PP Forum, and then FYC. Best of luck and good wishes.

Hello to all! I haven't been active for a while due to health issues. Haven't been shooting since November. Did charge my camera batteries yesterday as working in my garden is bringing out the wonderful urge to capture the beauty around me. Love Lensbaby and closeup work. I do hope it will be included in some fashion once again.
