My thought, get a 2x converter and take the 2 kit lenses.

I don't know Nikon lenses so much but I seriously doubt that you can mount a converter to a kit lens.

Beautiful parks all... Just returning from a similar trip.
You will enjoy the parks no matter what lenses you bring.

Go wide. I used my Sigma 10-20 on my D7000 exclusively on our Utah tour, no hiking, just driving.

I’ve been there, and I believe you can get everything you want with the 18-105. I used only an 18-55, and a only very few times I wished I had something just a little longer.

Been to all of those NPs. Your 18-105 lens would suffice for near all your shots of these iconic parks. You could take your 55-200 lens as well for selected shots.

Enjoy your visits to some of the most beautiful natural land formations on planet Earth.

Note that due to NP popularity, rooms in the town of Moab, Utah, sell out mostly, with only a few costly rooms available. So book your room early. You will need only one room because Moab sits near both CNP and ANP.

I'm going for about three weeks to Zion, Bryce, Arches, Capitol Reef, Grand Canyon National Parks, flying from North Carolina. Should I lug my Nikon 200- 500 f56, or, be satisfied with my 18- 105, and 55- 200 kit lenses?

One my trip to Zion and Bryce in 2018, I primarily used my 12-100 mm lens on my Olympus EM1 Mk II (24-200 FF Equv.) However, there are opportunities to shoot deer, small animals and sometimes, Big Horn Sheep and mountain goats, so your 200-500 could be the lens that gives you the 'great shot of the trip.'

The SW is terrific. You will have an amazing experience.

I've been to all those parks multiple times, and if it were me, I'd go ahead and carry it. And don't forget, add Monument Valley and Canyonlands NP to that list! This is assuming you are traveling by private vehicle once you get there. If not, leave the 200-500 at home.

I've shot in all of those parks. My landscape shots on a full frame were 16-35 and 24-70. The only time I pulled out a longer focal length was to photograph a mule deer or bighorn sheep on the ride through Colorado.

Been there done that. Nothing over 155 mm for me and only used that to get closer to hoodoos and arches... Almost all shots were within 18-55 range.

Beautiful parks. Hope for no rain so you can hike to the narrows in Zion. It rained when I was there and they don't let people in with even a few drops of rain up high.

Your 18-105 will do you good. I'd take the 55-200 just in case.

We were there about a year ago, and actually didn't see too much wildlife. You're more likely photographing scenery-canyons, arches, rock formations, and possibly flowers after the winter rains. I used an 18-140 mm lens for almost all of my shooting. Great places-you'll love the trip!

Having been to all those venues several times, I believe I can say with some justification that you won't miss a shot you want if the you leave the 200-500mm Nikon home. African Safari absolutely take it. Road trip in a car with space, take it, just in case. Air travel....forget it.

Additionally, if you are going to the north rim of the Grand Canyon there are opportunities for photographs of Elk

There are a lot of deer and some big horn sheep in the canyon and some of the other parks. It would be a shame to miss them without a long lens. And you can get some unusual perspectives into the canyon with a good telephoto. Personally, I never go anywhere without a long lens.

I don't know your age and strength and stamina, but for me I'd leave the big boy home. I live in Arizona and have been to all the places you mentioned. As for Big Horn Sheep, last time in Zion they were grazing beside the road. If you can do sunset at Delicate Arch and midmorning at Mesa Arch do them. IMHO these are the two best arches in Utah....and there are many.

I've been to the Grand Canyon many times and have hiked Rim to Rim. If at all possible go to the North Rim. Tourists go to theSouth Rim, while locals prefer the North Rim. Slow, relaxing and unbelievably stunning. If you can get a lightning storm coming across it will be something you will never forget.

Just back from White Pocket in Utah. Very good but you will need 4WD.

Consider doing Upper Antelope Canyon out of Page. Tours only. They do special photo tours for the dagger of light, bit I never did it.

Where you are going is unbelievable. Maybe a lazy trip to Rainbow Bridge for a day trip.

I love where I live! You are welcome to visit.....but don't move here! Ha!

Was in Zion a few weeks ago. 17-40 on a 1.6 crop was not wide enough for me.
