Which in the USA is known as the DMC-ZS100. I believe it is a much better "bang for buck" choice over the RX10. If pocketability isn't a priority, the Lumix DMC-FZ1000 would be my choice.

Personally, a viewfinder is a must.

The cost would be lower.. the TZ-200 has been out for some time. Yes, the Sony is superior {a little} in image quality... but the Panasonic has more reach... greater zoom. Both are excellent cameras. My Panasonic has more tricks than I ever expected. That is why I bought the aftermarket book...

I have a Sony RX10 M4 camera which in my humble opinion is the best available. I am looking for a backup camera that doesn't cost as much but has a 1" sensor and a 2.8 lens. I shoot mostly stage plays with little light and no flash. Any suggestions? Thank you.

I'd suggest you look at a used RX10M3. Same everything, focus system not quite as good, menu a little more disorganized, but you will get similar results to your M4

Eh what? TZ-200: 24-360mm zoom. RX10 III & IV: 24-600mm zoom.

I just bought a Panasonic zs200. Getting ready to go on a trip for the first major use but is the perfect size with a 15 zoom. Another one to check out.

G7x mark 2. Did a lot of research wanted a well built p&s to carry in the plane and shoot single handed. And better reach than most
Been playing with it in low light. Really impressed with it, fast easy to handle excellent IQ lots to work with for settings
Screen is bright in daylight so I can do without the EVF

I would look at Panasonic first, Canon second, Fuji third, and Nikon last. They are the best of the manufactures that remain in that market.

I use a Canon G9X (Mark I) as my second camera. I have used it at school plays before, with good results. It has a 1" sensor and a f/2 lens. It is very small (fits into my shirt pocket)--it may be the smallest 1" camera on the market. The con is that the 3x zoom is somewhat anemic--it covers the 28-84mm range (full-frame equivalent). I love this little camera; it has excellent image quality.

I have the Canon G9X Mark II and I agree, a great camera for a backup or easy to carry camera. I use mine a lot for street photography, and also for when I want to carry a camera fits in my pocket. And as a backup to my DSLR when I travel.

Clarifying question: Are you saying that Sony is no longer a viable manufacturer in the 1"-type sensor market?

Really? Sony seems to come out on top of every 1" sensor comparison I've seen. Panasonic does rate high but I've never really seen one that put Canon or Nikon ahead of Sony. I must not be reading the right reviews.

Both you and wmurnahan are right. And more than likely, along with making their own 1" camera, Sony is probably making most of the chips for the others that I mentioned. And I would have to place them close to the top if not the top in some cases. It would be a balance of features and cost that would determine which of the cameras / manufacturers one would chose. With such a small market now, every camera has to be at its best to survive.
