Crested Caracara are an endangered bird that primarily feed on carrion. You can sometime see them amongst vultures either circling or feeding with them. Here in Osceola County Florida they can be found on cattle ranches that have scrub and trees. They are gorgeous in flight and I ask that if anyone has one SHOW ME PLEASE.

Very nice images. I have a couple of shots of one flying from a tree but they aren't worthy of a post.

Do you know if this bird is classified or characterized as a raptor?

Yes, they are a raptor...many times they hunt on foot and to get airborne they have to run like he..

Spottd about 7 of these while driving along the Texas Gulf Coast.
most were feeding down in the ditch on a dead calf, but stopping an getting out of the car cared most of the away. These were roosting nearby. They are actually related to falcons.

Here is a poor shot but it does show the caracara in flight. Taken about 10 years ago with a Nikon D40x and 18-55 kit lens, so not much reach or resolution for BIF! This was taken in Petrohue, Chile on the western shore of Lago Todos los Santos - a beautiful area.
