Lots of good choices out there, dparker. Question is do you want it small enough to fit in your pocket? And do you plan to use RAW??

For that price you can have an excellent mirrorless camera, if small size is one of your priorities with interchangeable lenses. If you want you can use it as a point and shoot.

I would add about $300 to your already $1000 budget, and purchase the very best Bridge camera today. The Sony RX10iv. However, a point and shoot camera can also be a pocket camera that has a viewfinder. You may want to check the Sony and Panasonic Brands for those cameras. Those Brands are the leaders in the pocket camera categories. Good luck.

You might consider a Sony DSC-HX80, which is around $400.00. Very nice, very compact, and... it's a Sony.

For a "Real" cheap P&S (with an Optical View Finder) look foe a used Canon PowerShot A1300 (now out of production). Powered by Two AA batteries which are available everywhere.

Try Craig's or eBay:

Price refurbished about $50.00.

Please gimme the names and models of mirrorless cameras that use interchangeable lenses, are in this price range, can be used as a P&S, and are small enough to fit in one's pocket.

Thank you.

It depends on the pocket. But the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX85 and GX850 with "pancake" lenses come pretty close for jacket or cargo pants pockets.

The Sony a6000 is a compact crop sensor mirrorless camera, that has the capability of interchangeable lenses. You can get one, with a lens, for less than $1000. A compact camera is not necessarily a pocket camera though.

At $598 (B&H), the original Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100 is a bargain. Four Thirds format point-and-shoot with manual controls, a Leica lens, electronic viewfinder and a large multi-aspect 4/3" type MOS sensor.

I've got several lens cameras. I wanted something small to travel back home. My niece, who I will be visitng, has the Sony a6000 and I'll be using that as well as the P&S. I just bought the Canon G5X. Please tell me I made a good choice?

Olympus e-m5 Mark II with its kit lens would work with cargo pants. 14-42mm f/4 - 5.6. The camera is weather sealed and has 5-axis internal stabilization that is excellent. The lens isn’t sealed.

It should do you well it's got a 1 inch sensor, the Sony rx100iv also has a 1 inch sensor and it's very good. The canon has a better focal range. No worries mate.....
