I do not know what you mean by leash box! I never use any boxes when working with brushes, I prefer shortcuts as this is so much faster and convenient, when using the brush tool, hold down Alt and the right mouse button for a preview of the brush's tip size and hardness, drag up or down to increase, or decrease the hardness and drag left, or right for changing the size, also when using a non-circular brush, you may find the need to change the angle of the brush tip. To do this, click the Brush panel in the Options bar, then highlight the brush brush tip shape and drag the circle to change the angle of the brush. You can also flip it horizontally, or vertically with the check boxes. If you want to to some precise painting, click Caps Lock to switch the cursor to a crosshair. To cycle through the brushes, use, and. to cycle left and right through the brushes in the Preset Picker. As you probably know, the ] and [ bracket keys change your brush size, but you can also Shift+[ or], to change the hardness. When using your brush tool, press any number between 0 and 9 and the brush's opacity will set to it, 1 for 10%, 9 for 90%. Press Shift and a number to adjust flow! With the brush tool selected, hold down Alt and click to sample a color and then set it as your foreground color. These are just a small example of all that can be done with shortcuts when working with brushes or any other tool for that matter. It sure is a big time saver when compared to bringing up the pull down menu's all the time. Hope this will help just a bit!

Thank you speters for your interesting reply. The leash box in in the preferences in the edit drop down box under cursors, this shows a line between the brush and where you are working when you are smoothing..I was not looking for shortcuts but had a problem with the brush not working as precise as it used to.. Linary solved my problem as the smoothing was not at 0, my brush now works as it used to.
