I captured a few pics of a new bird recently that turned out to be a rare bird sighting and the very first one in Josephine County, Southern Oregon. I have been getting calls & visitors all day that want to come see this Oriole! Some may come down from Portland even ...about 285 miles away! I had no idea this might happen nor knew much about a rare bird sighting Alert System but it works I can tell you!
At first I did not include any pics & my post was not accepted as likely. But after I included these shots they changed their minds & the alert went out. I feel like this is a rare & undeserved honor but glad it happened. These are not great pics but good enough to ID the Hooded Oriole Male Juvenile!
WooHoo! Another New Bird for me!
That's pretty awesome. Do all these hordes of people have to come to your house? That sounds terrifying.
Nice sighting and photo. Good work. If I was in driving distance I would come to see it as well.

Thank you very much! It is fun seeing a new one.
Excellent set and congrats, Walt!
Thanks Swamp-Cork! I am getting to meet some of the local birders now & may go attend a meeting soon. I have another new bird too I did not mention yet, an Orange Crowned Warbler. I will make a post about it soon. The big Kahuna in the local bird society came out to see me & possibly sight the oriole, but no luck, I think it has moved on. He immediately spotted a Wilson's Warbler, so I have to keep on the lookout for that one now. They say I have a very diverse habitat at my house & surrounding area.

Great news, Walt and hope the warbler also returns. We are now being serenaded by a male prothonotary warbler which is trying to attract a mate. Things haven't worked out the last two year, but hopes arise as I have glimpse another one which may be a female! Take care, Corky
