If y'all remember not too long ago, gas was $4.00+ per gallon. These images were accumulated at that time. History has a tendency to repeat itself...so perhaps we shall see that magic number again.

You mean like right now in California?

And to think on our honeymoon in Dec 73/Jan 74 we worried about 55 and 65 cent gas along the interstates.

I’m one of those lucky individuals that have a vehicle with a highly efficient engine and a turbocharger to boost the power when needed. Unfortunately it requires top tier fuel and that has been in and over the $4 range for some time here in SoCal. The funny part is that if I drive from Palm Springs to just the other side of the Arizona State line, gas is a dollar a gallon cheaper. Go figure.

The People's Republic of Taxifornia needs the money for all the spending ideas they have in Sacramento. Plus they require a special blend of gas just for here, the national blends are not good enough for them. Careful on those Arizona fill ups, they might bust you for smuggling gas into CA.

Why is the cost of gas so high when oil is $64/barrel? Oil is still cheap. There was a time when it was $200/barrel. Why are we paying through the nose for gas when we've done everything to bring the price of oil down?

I would buy an electric car but my cord will only reach to the end of my driveway.

I almost cried the first time a fill up cost me $10. That was back in the 70's.

Is it possible the good economy means more fuel being used and the real bottleneck is a complete lack of refineries that can keep up with demand? Plenty of crude but lack of production capacity.

Used to fill up my 1964 'vette with Sunoco 260 at $0.32/gal. Regular for my 57 Chevy was $0.25

Through a lot of number crunching, the oil companies made an amazing discovery. If they charge more, their profit increases. If it's windy in LA, raise the prices. If someone in the Middle East gets annoyed, raise the prices.

I have some relatives from the SF bay area planning a trip up here the end of this week. Do you think they will get busted if they try to go back to California with a tankful of gas they purchased here before heading home?
