You use gold foil and typesets your name on photographs. Print names on Bibles and other books. The machine heats the typeset and transfers the name to your object, book or photograph. I'm sure you have seen names in gold on these two items. Hope this makes sense to you. Have a Great Day.

Would there be a separate set of type that would be used with the pictured unit?

Yes, the small straight piece at the front corner of the picture holds the type. You might google Kingsley,, There is a lot of information, also E Bay. These machines are quit expensive if you get a whole set, but if you are just wanting to stamp your name on pictures you would only need the type to print your name. Thanks for the inquiry.

The machine itself is useless without metal type (not "typesets") and stamping foils. Find a source for those first.

Google it and E-bay it. Think out of the box. This ole press still has a lot of life to give. Not useless, to the right person.
