With all the extra rain we have recently had, Southern California received a "superbloom" of Poppies. Now about a month later we get a Mustard Plants Superbloom. In all the years I've lived here, I've never seen anything like these superblooms. There is yellow covering our hills!

Funny how we now like to place the word super in front of words like moon and bloom or storm or cell.

It is impressive to see large areas in bloom with wild flowers. And all super????? Offer good photo ops.

It seems that these plants are actually considered weeds, and there is concern that when they dry out they become tinder...

Yes duane......you are right. It's funny how we do that "super" in front of words to make it seem more impressive!

Actually Webster's dictionary defines "weed" as an unwanted plant. I can see that in the future when these Mustard plants dry up and become tinder, they will be a fire hazard. Let's watch and see how this all pans out in the summer when the winds pick up and arsons are out there lighting it all up!

Thanks for your input f8lee.

In Texas we call these Bastard Cabbage. They are taking over and are threatening our beloved Bluebonnets. We have fields that look the same way.

Mustard blooms smell really good too! Very sweet, but I only grew them in my garden a few years back. The blooms were beautiful. Those photos are so pretty.

Quite a set of images! It is amazing what can happen when there is an abundance of moisture.
