I'm saddened, the world is saddened....a world tragedy happen yesterday with the burning of Notre Dame in Paris, the world has lost a truly iconic 800 year old monument and religious shrine. Not sure we even have the artists who created this masterpiece to restore it back to its once beautiful self but I'm sure they'll give it their best. I had the opportunity to visit Notre Dame some years back when I attended my daughters wedding in Paris and was so glad I did. I've been to Paris a few times since but sadly never went back to Notre Dame. Just posting a couple of old pictures (2013) I took of the Nave and a stained glass window while visiting the Cathedral with the family.

Hard to comprehend that all this, including the stained glass was built nearly a thousand years ago.

I walked past it a few times when in Paris, but never had the urge to get inside.

Absolutely, the artisans and architects in those days were truly artists....so many of the Cathedrals in Europe were started ~1000 years ago even though it took a couple of hundred years to complete them. Similarly, the Cathedral in Strasbourg, France was started over 1000 years ago (1015) and is considered one of the most beautiful Gothic Cathedrals in the world. Some of its original stained glass windows date back to 13th and 14th century. Many windows were carefully removed during WWII and stored until the war was over. When visiting Europe we always visit as many of the cathedrals as we can, the architecture is amazing....Cheers

I have never been to Europe and so have never seen this cathedral although my brother did on 2 occasions many years ago. It was very sad to see it burn the other evening and I will contribute $ to the rebuild funds that are forming currently and I encourage others to do likewise.

Thanks for sharing your images of her. It is an enormous building as they usually are but this one was really loved by the entire world.
