Saving a Good Subject from a Bad Background!

2014 was my first Gem show. This slab, Photo1, came in handy a year later when I took this Indian doll’s photo 2. It was stuffed in a back lite closet! I knew it would need help and fixed it in Photo 3 “NEVER let a bad background keep you from taking a good photo!”

It is a wonderful picture. I would think if you went to Youtube and punched in replace the background. Photoshop would have the answer.

Very good Bill, What would we do with out our computers and the photography software and tutorials that we have... And help from fellow hoggers...

That's a good look and a unique background. The video tutorials for Photoshop make it look so easy to create a mask and use the refine edge tool, but I find that it is not so easy as they say, especially when the fine detail of the subject fur is so similar to the background.

Thanks so much Val! I enjoy showing folks what's possible with software. Too many frown on it and call it cheating if it's anything other than the camera! That's insane! The camera has software in it, just not as much as many programs. I guarantee, if Ansel Adams were alive today, he'd be into software Too! What he did in the darkroom, we're doing in the Digital darkroom today!

bleirer, nothing is easy at first! I've spent hours on youtube and rarely got what they showed! They leave out a shortcut you didn't see that makes all the difference! I'm self taught and like a dog on a meaty bone determined! If I can save others from the hell I went through, I'm more than willing to do so!
