Very impressive - both the power of the waves and the captures.

Do they really have big tides in Michigan?

I looked that up yesterday, and the short answer is "no". I knew there were not big tides, but logic would dictate, that large a body of water will be effected, and it is, but... by an inch, or less, so it is not noticeable.

Winds were blowing 25+ MPH, 4/12/19 and the waves just exploded whenever the came to a barrier, which made shooting at the break walls just incredible. I had such a good time, I was alone, seemingly, with all this power around me, what a feeling of awe!

Downloads are much more fun to view.

I do understand and agree with you. I can enjoy the intensity of the lake from the photos, but the feel of total awe I experienced being there, that I cannot duplicate. I can also overcook the photos, and bring out something more from the sky, but it wouldn't be the same, and you are right, it was not how it was at that moment, and would still fall short.

There are some things that cannot be captured with a still picture, or even motion picture. You just have to be there. The redwoods are similar.

I think that which evokes awe is rarely completely recorded...but can still be conveyed to some degree.
