I had a good friend go out Sunday and shoot a great Snowy owl and I didn't go out until Monday and it had already flown north. Slow year for owls, looking forward to what ever comes while in Yellowstone. You know that checking for blinkies works good on snowy owls in the snow, white on white, easy to blow out if your not careful. Say Dave, I'm now shooting a Manfrotto 504 HD video head off my RRS tripod and I love it!
Good to know! I'll check out the head. I switched to the Wimberley WH-200ii a couple years ago with lever quick releases on the base and cradle (PG-CC), but the birds and animals make me crazy so I'm always looking! I did convert completely over to arca-swiss, that includes my mono, and Manfrotto does its own thing with respect to plates. I still have a Manfrotto 393 on the shelf with extra plates that I'll part with one of these days. BTW, Kathy wanted a Tamron 18-400 and she was quite pleased with it on our last trip. Not a bad walk around lens, but it's not for me. We hit the Everglades for the fist time in late January and had a ball. Even got a Great Horned Owl with two babies (so-so shots) and a few other goodies. I'm headed to Black Point Drive on Merritt Island for a quick trip in a couple weeks which will help get me back in the groove for June. I have a little business to take care of for my mother and will disappear for a couple days to shoot some birds.
June will most likely be the end of the hiking scenario due to two pair of tired knees! We have a bunch of easier ones picked out, so we'll see! Take care and we'll catch you somewhere!
