Good morning Ron! We are making packing lists and a grocery shopping list! LOL! Two of my boys and five grandkids are ready to come out at different times. Kathy has been drilling them on animal identification and some of the park features other than thermal. We are going to meet up with an Idaho member for lunch in Ashton, Id, but other than than there are no meetings planned. If you and Helma make it out, that would be great. We both know that our stay is at a bad time, but the kids school schedules restricted our visit. We pretty well stay out of the congested areas and Swan Lake Flats is about as busy as we want! Mt Washburn will be open and I'm hoping to do that as well as the Hoodoos and Bunsen. We'll be doing more hiking in Little America, West Thumb and Hell Roaring areas for the suspension bridge. Trout Lake may be active with the otters, cutthroat and rainbow activity. Neve bored! We will be in Gardiner by the 13th and if the airlines screw up, we'll drive the 2400 miles!

So to answer your query, no, we're not packed yet, but we have been ready to go since renting the house in Jan 2018!

The blinkies info is good to know for other cameras as well...even the brand that RRS has, but I can't remember the name.

Thanks for the info Dave and say Hi to Kathy from both of us. BTW, I shoot a Cannon and if shooting pictures I shoot a Canon. Been out to the lake for most of the day, only one Osprey so far. Time to eat. Will talk soon.

Ron

LOL, I know what you shoot off of the RRS tripod!

I have four active Osprey nests and the GBH are slow...4 occupied out of the 8 I had last year.

I had a good friend go out Sunday and shoot a great Snowy owl and I didn't go out until Monday and it had already flown north. Slow year for owls, looking forward to what ever comes while in Yellowstone. You know that checking for blinkies works good on snowy owls in the snow, white on white, easy to blow out if your not careful. Say Dave, I'm now shooting a Manfrotto 504 HD video head off my RRS tripod and I love it!

Good to know! I'll check out the head. I switched to the Wimberley WH-200ii a couple years ago with lever quick releases on the base and cradle (PG-CC), but the birds and animals make me crazy so I'm always looking! I did convert completely over to arca-swiss, that includes my mono, and Manfrotto does its own thing with respect to plates. I still have a Manfrotto 393 on the shelf with extra plates that I'll part with one of these days. BTW, Kathy wanted a Tamron 18-400 and she was quite pleased with it on our last trip. Not a bad walk around lens, but it's not for me. We hit the Everglades for the fist time in late January and had a ball. Even got a Great Horned Owl with two babies (so-so shots) and a few other goodies. I'm headed to Black Point Drive on Merritt Island for a quick trip in a couple weeks which will help get me back in the groove for June. I have a little business to take care of for my mother and will disappear for a couple days to shoot some birds.

June will most likely be the end of the hiking scenario due to two pair of tired knees! We have a bunch of easier ones picked out, so we'll see! Take care and we'll catch you somewhere!

Dave, real quick, take it easy going up to Trout Lake and coming down isn't any easier either. We tried to keep up with two of the grandchildren and we thought we would die! As for that Manfrotto head, I mounted an Arca-swiss clamp from RRS onto the Manfrotto plate and it works great. The 504 head comes with the leveling 75mm bowl all attached. If your tripod doesn't have the bowl capability you can go up one head to the N-8 which is a flat mount. I noticed something very interesting today out at the lake after watching the video on the blinkies this morning, I had it turned on but didn't have the viewing screen activated to come on after each shot, I had been just checking the histogram when ever I wanted to check something. Have fun getting ready and I sure hope you won't have to drive!
