I have one of those and it does ok in a pinch, they are decent for the money ( I paid $65 new), but I certainly would not call them precise, but like I said, for the money they are ok!
Hi CraigP,
A question if you please.
I assume this rail attaches to a tripod head via the screw attachment on the tripod which is a standard size or two. How can it be used off a tripod and be stable?
Thanks,

Hi,
The only way I can think of is to attach it to a 1/4” stud or bolt through a piece of plywood or table.
You could possibly use double sided Gorilla tape or duck tape it down.
Thanks,
Craig
I have used a number of these and this one is better than most with the slide adjustments very smooth and easy to control so i would say it gives a good degree of precision.
Some I have used have hard spots with a slip-stick action that make them more difficult to control.
As for price, if you can find it new for that price, you should buy it.
Thanks. I will give it a go.
