Is Kenko a good brand? Three tubes 12, 20, 30 retains auto focus. $130.00 or should I bite the bullet and go with Nikon?

I have N-F Ziekos Digital AF Macro Extension Tube, 12,20,36. It retains auto focus with my Nikon D7100 ,D90. Don't remember how much I paid; it was about 5 years ago.

Since there is no glass involved, I don't think brand and price make as much difference in extension tubes as in other optics. Precision is important, but in my admittedly less informed opinion, I would go with the price savings on the Kenko.

Two important things. First, ensure the extension tubes purchased supports AF for your camera, and second some are looser and bit more wobbly than others. I know that on Canon camera's the Kenko extension tubes are less rigid then the Canon tubes, but of course the Canon tubes are much more expensive.

I have a set of Kenko extension tubes and they work just fine; haven't had the slightest problem with them.

The Nikon tubes do not retain autofocus - manual focus only. If you are doing macro, which I assume,
autofocus may not be necessary.

Have used Kenko gear with my Nikon equipment for years with no trouble at all - they do what is expected

I shoot close up and macro subjects using manual focus, so AF is not a requirement. Kenko is fine, but I would be wary of anything cheaper.

As long as they have the electrical coupling.

Kenko tubes are great and will save you a great deal of money, I have used them for years. I every now and again hang a huge macro lens on the end of them with no problems at all, they are solidly built.

I have had excellent success with much less expensive automatic tubes. Less than $50. Not all metal so I don't know if that's an issue. If you're planning on using them until you get a macro lens or sticking with the tubes would be something to consider.

I got some cheap Meke brand extension tubes that work great - support AF, and can be stacked.

Kenko tubes worked fine on my D7100 and are now used with my D600 . . . not a single issue.

I use these:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Neewer-Auto-Focus-ABS-Extension-Tubes-Set-12mm-20mm-36mm-for-Nikon-DSLR-Cameras/201829927491?hash=item2efe004a43:g:OJcAAOSwCU1YrnrD&frcectupt=true

They work flawlessly, and are very reasonable. The build quality is great.
