I was a C-141 loadmaster 69-73. While not actually serving a tour " In country" We did fly in and out of a few times. Brought some of those boys home for the last time.

This post stirs the same emotions experienced when being surrounded by the sadness of family members while conducting funerals for their loved ones - mid sixties.

That looks like a grand event honoring Vietnam Veterans. I attend an annual picnic honoring WW2 and Korean War Veterans. The WW2 Veterans are thinning out each year though. The organizers will consider Vietnam Vets at a later time. The Vietnam Memorial is located in DC, and I attended there in the Spring of 2015. It was like walking on hallowed ground. Seeing all of those fallen names on that wall. I take a friend to the VA hospital occasionally, to get medical follow ups on his ear drums and eye damages, he incurred while fighting in that war. It had drastic results for many who served there. Vietnam Vets, made many sacrifices in that war. Mostly in lost lives. 58,000. I have an uncle and a cousin who served in that war. Both retired military now, with each serving 20 years. Last one retired at Fort Bliss, Texas.

Thank you for sharing
Thank you to all in the Military.
The Missing Man Table is a tearful reminder of those who haven't returned.

If you haven't had a chance to see a Missing Man Table ceremony, the link below will show you the one done by Rolling Thunder Colorado Chapter 1.

Army in country Dec 66-Jan 69.
I came home on emergency leave on a C-141 when My stepfather died and Mom asked the Red Cross to get me home for a month to be with her. There were about 15 of us on emergency leave aboard as passengers. Officers got the row of regular airline seats and the rest of us had those canvas sling seats for paratroopers. Stewardess was a grumpy loadmaster who needed a shave, the "TV dinner" style food was about as good as field rations (we stopped for fuel mid Pacific and stampeded to the base burger stand).
Amazing how comfortable you could sleep on a cargo pad stretched over a couple of Long Tom gun tubes.

I would like to thank all in the Military who willing protect all of us who they don't know. I will always put my hand to my heart and thank someone who is serving or has served. I value my freedom as a United States Citizen. I'm proud of it always. This is not intended as a political statement. It is a statement of gratitude. I have never seen the missing soldier ceremony, but it has brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for sharing.
