I plan on visiting the Bay of Fundy, Nova Scotia, and if we have time PEI. I only have a week. We were thinking of staying at different hotels each night so we can see as much of the island as possible.

Any recommendations on places to stay? Also looking for the most scenic areas for photos.

We will be visiting the first weekend in August.

Thank you.

We found The Bay of Fundy National Park a good place. We got there at low tide and one of the rangers took me for a walk along the shore. She pointed out some interesting rock formations, explained what the towers were for, then said it was time to head back. We got to a stairway just as our feet started to get wet. At high tide this arch was barely showing, only the trees. I was shooting film / the scan isn't great, but you get the idea.

I don't remember where we stayed but it was near the park. We were actually on our way home from Newfoundland. This was the end of June.

The only hotel I stayed in was the Best Western in Yarmouth. Stayed in bed and breakfast the rest of the way around the island. Lots of photographic opportunities probably where you're going is the best the tide there is huge. The other side of the island The Tide is almost nil 4 or 5 feet. I stayed in the bed and breakfast in lockeport about 15 feet from high tide the ground is slightly slanted there almost level everywhere.

Here's a link to a lot of photography options. when I was there I just traveled around the perimeter eating scallops everywhere and taking pictures of lighthouses there are lots of lighthouses.

My wife and I went on an 8 day tour with a company called Tauck. You should look at the website to get an idea of the places we visited and lodging. Included PEI, Peggy Cove, Bay of Fundy, and whale watching (which is a must!)

Hey Bill, you took that picture at the famous Hope Rockwell, New Brunswick. I'll be going there in June.

If I were going back, I would go to the western coast of Cape Breton Island and check out the Cabot Trail. Also the Celtic Interpretive Center. You may be lucky enough to stumble into one of their local dances with live fiddling, food, and locals if all ages. It is settled by Scots that all immigrated from one particular Scottish town generations ago. Lots of opportunities for colorful shots.

Murphy, you will be hard pressed to pack all that in one week. I would drop PEI. Nova Scotia mainland and Cape Briton Island will fill your dance card.

Do a Google search on Nova Scotia to get a feel of what you will be seeing.

If you send me your email address I’ll give you some information about New Brunswick, PEI and Nova Scotia. We were there last year for nearly 3weeks. Too much info to relate on this site. s3secarne@yahoo.com. Sam

Many visitors concentrate on Peggy's Cove and the Western end of NS, and miss what I consider the best part - Cape Breton Highlands. It is a must, at the far Eastern end of Nova Scotia. Stay in Ingonish - the Keltic Lodge is awesome (not cheap, however). Drive around the Cabot Trail - swing over to White Point for a beautiful walk out to the point. Drive around the north side of Cape Breton to Margaree Harbor, then swing South through the Margaree Valley - really beautiful. Years ago I stayed at the Normaway Inn - really beautiful little place - they cook a great salon dinner and when we went they had a local Keltic musician. You will need reservations for August - act soon.

In the Bras d'Or lakes region, the Bras d'Or Lakes Inn in St. Peter's in Nova Scotia is one of our favorites! 800-818-5885. Excellent food, nice accommodations and reasonable price. If you do nothing else, you must do the Cabot Trail around Cape Breton. Stunning scenery! Antigonish, NS and visit the Alexander Graham Bell home. Get off the beaten path. You'll find all sorts of tiny fishing villages. We stopped in Neil's Cove (saying it was tiny was an understatement) for lobster at what looked like a sub shop. Lobster season had ended the day before so all they had was fresh off the boat crab! Hope you like fish and seafood.

In PEI you'll be amazed at all the different shades of green and rolling countryside. For a turn of the century, luxury experience, Dalvay-by-the-Sea. It's a Victorian era hotel that was part of the Cancian Pacific built resorts. Even if you don't stay there, high tea or lunch is a must! If you're going in the summer, the water on the north shore of PEI is very warm as the Gulf current grazes the island.

If you're a golfer as well as photographer, the courses are spectacular and there are many of them. My favorite was Crowbush Cove.

I agree, except the time frame. NS, PEI, and Cape Briton will take a minimum of two to three weeks. More like three. I spent 4 days on Nova Scotia and needed another 4 minimum. I think if you try to pack too much into a time frame, you really miss a lot. I even missed the Bay of Fundy. Now I have to go again (shucks).

I visited PEI and Halifax, NS in 2011 as part of a cruise, and Halifax again in 2013 as the end of a Canada Rail tour. Lodging during the 2011 cruise was, of course, on the ship. My photos of the relevant sites are at:
PEI: https://www.flickr.com/photos/8712554@N02/sets/72157627427277281/
Sydney, NS: https://www.flickr.com/photos/8712554@N02/sets/72157627557267078/
Halifax, NS: https://www.flickr.com/photos/8712554@N02/sets/72157627435768887/.

My photos of Halifax, NS in 2013 are here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/8712554@N02/sets/72157635104740318/. I stayed at the Delta Halifax Hotel, and it was very nice (not far from the water or the Citadel).

One of the highlights of my 2013 visit to Nova Scotia was a tour in a motorcycle sidecar down to Peggys Cove. The sidecar passenger communicates to the driver through a headset and it's a wonderful way to see and photograph the scenery. (It is possible to engage 2 cycles if a couple wants to do it.) The name of the company is Bluenose Sidecar Tours @ (903)579-7433 if you're interested. I had a blast doing it! (I am not connected and get no kickback.)
