I was happily working away on my main computer, a Dell desktop, probably 4-5 years of age. I took a break, probably 15 minutes and when I got back I noticed that I could not type. I have a new Logitech K800 that up to today worked fine. From another computer, the one I am on right now I switched the mouse and keyboard to the Dell. Same thing it won't type. I plugged the USB's directly into the computer and no change. Of I tried restarting and because of that I can now not log in, because I can't type. Up to this point when the computer was still on it searched and acted normal.....but would not type. Anyone have any ideas? The Logitech is an illuminated keyboard and it was not illuminated. But it's disconnected now and no typing.
Once your system reboots, will your mouse work normally? Are other USB peripherals connected? Did you upgrade any system software recently?
Mouse works fine, all else is fine. I think I've narrowed it down to the fact that the Logitech is bad.

do you have the original keyboard - or another older keyboard?

Yes, but you said you tried another Kb and the results were the same? Also, the Logitech wireless Kb takes batteries. Did you replace with new?
If you have another dongle, from logitech in use [mouse], try to download the unifying software to integrate them into one dongle. I have both a K800 and a Performance MX mouse running from one dongle.
The unifying software is very easy to use.

Try changing the battery.
Something to be said for ALWAYS keeping a basic keyboard and basic mouse on hand for times like this to bypass any and all addons/drivers. Back to basics frequently has saved the day.

I did try. I looked up the directions on the internet and did what they said. I unscrewed the little screw in the back and when it came out there is a white piece of plastic and another screw. I took that out and there is nothing else to do. There are no visible batteries and if I tried to remove the plastic I would destroy the entire kb. I read the comments of the attached link and I don't think I'm gonna have any luck replacing them.

The keyboard came with a charging cable. It plugs into the back with a USB-c connection. The batteries are in the bottom requiring a small phillips to unscrew, but, they are rechargeable and not worth taking out unless they need replacement because they are tough to remove. Just use the charge cable. It's the best way.

And if isn’t charged, it could be the rechargeable batteries are dead (unlikely, but certainly possible), the USB port isn’t supplying the charging voltage for the battery (diagnose by trying another port and/or checking the USB port settings in Control Panel/device manager), the USB cable is bad or the keyboard is bad.
If the keyboard that you tried is also wireless, the transmitter might have gone bad. Try a wired one.
happened to me once daughter took out main battery and put back in,worked
