I was intro'd to Windows with version 3.0. There is still a version of Windows 3.1 that runs on current computers. I started teaching Windows at the local Community College with Windows 3.1 and Microsoft Works. That was in 1992/93. Just retired a year ago when teaching Windows 10.

I still have a dream of resurrecting my Win 98 SE notebook.
I have precious software (mine and third-parties) that I love.
Including a lot of DOS software that will never run under my
Win 7, 64-bit.
Win 98 SE has USB support an that is the only one quality
that makes it better than Win 95.
Win 97... Never heard.

Commodore 64 with DOS and tape drive, Commodore 128 with DOS and two floppy drives, Dell PC with Win 3.0, Sony Vaio with Win 95 that I think was upgraded to 98. All later computers have been laptops. Have had XT & Vista. Now Samsung Win 10 (upgraded from 8) 8 GB RAM, 1TB HD, I7, 17" monitor.

I could never get any stability with Vista. Crashed constantly, even on a modern (then) notebook and desktop. Moved to Macs after that.

I used to do in-house IT for a lawyer I worked with. He had Win 95, bought a USB scanner when the court system started requiring electronic filings. He asked me to set it up. I told him the USB support for Win 95 was "theoretical at best," and I had heard nothing but bad experiences. "Try it anyway." So, after the inevitable "blue screen of death", I was able to bill several more hours getting his data back!
