Went on a tour of the white tern nesting area in the grounds of the Hawaii State Capital and I'olani Palace. Was fortunate to catch some feeding small fish to their babies. Interesting that these native seabirds nest in downtown Honolulu and Waikiki, but few other places in the islands.

Nikon D7000, Tamron 16-300mm.

Neat birds. These birds lay and incubate their eggs on bare branches. When the chicks hatch they balance on the branch while parents feed them. Unusual behavior for any bird, let alone a tern.

They are sometimes called fairy terns, and I had known them as that, but according to our guide there is a different tern in Australia named fairy tern so the proper name is white tern.
