I am in the process of learning Affinity. I'm curious to learn how many of my fellow members here are using Affinity? And to all who respond, 1st. Thanks, and 2nd. how much do you like it?

Hi Linda,

I've just returned from a short vacation, and had not see old posts, as in the Affinity vs. XXX. Thank you for pointing that out to me.

I've spent mucho bucks on PS, beginning back in 2005, with $660, and bought every other upgrade. For that reason, I'm not eager for the PSCC. Now, on this brand new computer, with a much newer OS (iMac), in addition to losing a scanner and Wacom tablet, I've lost the ability to print from the PSCS6. The PS works just fine, I simply cannot print...anything...without PS quitting instantly. Instead of spending days and weeks determining why PS shuts down when PRINT command is selected, I'm moving totally over to Affinity.

I hate to update an OS or buying a new computer, for I know I'll always lose software and hardware. I read that even here for those PSCC users. So Affinity can just keep moving forward.

Bill

Hi:
I just purchased it after their 10 day trial. Decided to purchase when they offered a sale. Got it for $40. In a short span of time I have learned much of what I need to edit my photos. Learned more about layers than I did for years with Photoshop. It seems to do everything Photoshop does and as I use it more, it seems easier to me. I have just scratched the surface of the 200 or so tutorials, and they are great. Very helpful. All in all, I'm very happy with it.

Hi Linda, br I've just returned from a short vacat... (show quote)

Bill - Since you have spent a lot of time and effort with PhotoShop stand-alone versions and are not interested in the subscription plan, have you considered a copy of PhotoShop Elements? It is available in stand-alone copies for Windows, Mac or Both for $99.99 OR bundled with Elements Premium (for video editing) for $149.99. Source quoted is B&H Photo, but it is available from other reliable dealers as well. Elements 2019 includes many of the features of Lightroom and PhotoShop, but for one single purchase.

To be totally fair to Photoshop, from all my years using it ... and learn so many many things along the way ... I will not be surprised to learn, as I learn Affinity, that Affinity may not be able to do everything PS does. But, I'm still shocked by all of what it does for that price. Then again, when PS began those many years ago, it was Shareware.

While I suspect there are many on here whose age is similar to mine (still teaching in my 52nd year of teaching) I welcome the opportunity to learn new things. So when my new iMac 10.13.6 caused my PSCS6 to shut down with Cmd-P, it may have done me a favor.

As a lifeline teacher, I believe it is both important and beneficial the we learn new things throughout our lives.

Okay, I'll kick my Soap Box aside, and get off of it.

Have used it for two years and does everything and more I need to do with editing - and free updates so far. Some feel as good or better than PS. No organizational ability like Lightroom. Excellent FREE tutorials and “Help.”On sale for $39.95!

Hi Jay,

I never want to 'differ' with any fellow members, but I rather doubt that Photoshop Elements and Elements Premium will do everything that Photoshop CC can do. I've taught several of my friends, over the years, Photoshop Elements. For the (then) price, compared to the $660 price I paid for my first PS, the Elements offered many new things, but didn't pack the power of full PS.

I hope I have not offended you.

Affinity Inventory: a composite I did (of my granddaughter over the moon) in Affinity recently.
Good luck.

Sorry, never said Elements could do “everything” that PhotoShop can do. I said it can do “many things that LR and PS can do”. Elements 2019 includes organizational (cataloging) tools that have long been missing. Quite a lot about the improvements appeared in the trade press when Elements 2019 was released. I know many UHH members have happily used Elements for years. Was just offering the alternative. Peace, my friend.

Am in the process of selling most of my cameras due to ill health. The Fuji X100F and the Fuji X-T2 will be the next to go. That will leave me with an original Fuji X100 and a Canon AE-1 Program film camera. At that point I will no longer have much use for the bells and whistles of LR and PS. So I’ll probably cancel the subscription and get PS Elements instead. /Ralph

Hey Ralph,

As I've been wanting to offer alternates to PSCC (Affinity), I understand your motive in offering alternates to PSCC in Elements 2019. It has been around a good long time, and my last two friends, whom I helped get started in Elements several years ago, continue to do amazing things with Elements. Great alternative.

I bought Affinity some time ago but have been slow getting into it. So far I love it and have no desire/intention to look for anything else.

When I decided to move beyond my previous photo editing program (PhotoImpact, never used it much) I considered Lightroom/Photoshop but I already had a very capable image cataloguing program (IMatch) so I didn't need the Lightroom library function. So I turned to Affinity and am very happy with it. No regrets or second thoughts.

I have it along with LR6. I do most editing in LR. Used Affinity a couple of times to remove objects. I should use it more. I have to get some more sky & moon pics & play with layers & composite pics. If I TRAVELED & TOOK MORE PICS I would have no problem with $10 a month for the adobe subscription. I was thinking of trying Capture 1 with all the great reviews.

I have been a user, quite happy, of Affinity Photo for about nine months. It's so much better than paying a monthly stipend!
