Time to buy some “FX” lenses.

I think, but am not sure, the Z 6 camera will automatically select the DX "crop" mode when using the FTZ adapter and DX lenses. If it's not automatic, you'll have to do it manually or just deal with the heavy vignetting in PP.

That could be useful if you're using a telephoto lens and want to squeeze out an extra 50% of focal length while using your new camera. It's also a way to spread the cost of buying new lenses out over time, but other than that I can't see any good reason to use crop frame lenses on a full frame camera.

Would not make much sense to use the DX lens on a full frame. Kind of defeats the purpose of a full frame camera. Just my thought on the topic.

Nikon's will do that but you can over-ride that if you like, for creative purposes.

Well given a limited budget and wanting to change formats, then you can start with the camera, or you can start buying FX lenses and buy the body later. OP chose the former route. That probably makes sense given the Z-mount lens product line is still in development.

Sometimes using a DX lens on a FF body can yield an interesting result for creative purposes.

There is a plus to using a DX lens on a Z over using a DX lens on a FF DSLR. On the Z it will automatically fill the viewfinder with the cropped image. It's like looking through the viewfinder of a DX camera.

That is a good point Bill.

But my DSLR is smart too! Look what it do!

When I mount a DX lens to my D750, it shows me the DX frame, and the viewfinder shows the actual view I will get if I choose to shoot in FX mode, including the vignetting.

See attached shots below, I just took them, both against a plain wall, so you can see the vignetting.
(Honestly I have never tried this before so it was new to me too).

11 MB photos are fine for most uses. Unless you need very shallow DOF, plan to crop the image a lot or make large prints, DX lenses are great on the Z6. The Nikon AF-P DX 18-55 and the Nikon AF-P DX 70-300 fit the Z6's size and, for cheap lenses, work shockingly well, in terms of both focusing and image quality.

No issues what-so-ever. fits like a glove with the adapter (weightless). Nikon's new lens designed for the mirrorless is fabulous - but an extra $600. So decision would be on your finances - gets great performance from all lens.

Pros: making photographs.
Cons: not making photographs.

On the other hand, the purpose of a camera is to take photos, and if what you have is a DX lens, then usning it serves the purpose of the camera you have. full frame, crop frame or whatever. Ya put the lens on the camera, take a few shots and see what ya got!

The camera is a recording device. It cannot compose the image. That is up to the nut behind the camera. And that part is far more important than the camera and lens.

We believed you the first time.

You reinforced it the second time.

Now we will never forget.
