I took a picture of a waterfall that I have taken many times yet this time I noticed that a large rock looked like a mountain lion and instead of showing the waterfall, I cropped the picture to show the hidden animal.

Please tell me if you see what I see. Your full blown critique of the picture is requested. Don't be kind, tell me what you like, don't like, etc.

Thank you in advance.

That's exactly what the photo suggested to me, though somewhat abstract.

This is the kind of image that compels the viewer to study it. There's a lot to see without making it look cluttered. Warm colors advance, cool ones recede, and you've got a nice balance between the two, giving importance to your "mountain lion" and a bit less to the waterfall. I like the softer edges that help keep the the focus on the two main themes. In short, I like it.

It took me awhile to see the animal; it's in profile facing to the right? I wasn't looking wide enough

I find the image to be highly engaging simply for the colors and textures and semi-abstract feel. IMO the white vignette works well, doesn't overpower the image and adds to the mood. Great creativity, Pat. Hope you'll post many more!

And, by coincidence, kenievans created a topic in PP Forum yesterday, on the same theme:
https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-584042-1.html

You can post there also, or just follow that topic for the fun of it. When posting to "share" threads, all you have to do is click reply (not quick reply) and there will be a place below the text box for adding your photo, same as when creating a new topic.

For future, if you wish people to examine your photo more closely as part of critique, you can click the "store original" box (to left of "add attachment" - click prior to adding the photo). That generates a download.

Very glad to have you on UHH!

I love the subtle colors and the composition is very engaging. I see an elephant though. Great PP.

Thank you. Yes, abstract was intended. Any suggestions to make it better?

Thank you so much for your help. I am disabled so I don't get out much to take pictures but when I do, I definitely will share.

Is it to late to put it in the area you mentioned?

...my initial reaction was a *minor* distraction with the white vignette. Past that, all good. Would love to see it without (some of the detail may warrant that) or even a black gradient?

Not at all. I plan to participate, but won't even be taking a photo 'til at least tomorrow

Another UHH hint: when you are replying to an individual, click the "quote reply" button directly below their comments. That will insert their comments into your reply and will allow the rest of us to know to whom you're speaking. Just make sure to write your own comments outside the brackets of the quote formatting.

All postings go into a thread in date/time stamp order (east coast USA time); they don't "attach" to any specific comments.
