Spots on the mirror would have nothing to do with spots on the image. They would only be seen in the optical viewfinder.

Beat me to it.

I sent my 7D off for cleaning. It was amazing the difference when I got it back. Things get dirty slowly over time, and you really don't notice it.

Those are either specks of dust or spots or oil on the sensor. Actually it's "stuff" on a filter that sits in front of the sensor and protects it. This is rather normal.

It's definitely NOT on the mirror... there is absolutely NO WAY that anything on the mirror, or anything seen in the viewfinder for that matter, can possibly show up in images. When an image is taken, the mirror is flipped up out of the way, blocking off the viewfinder momentarily, after which the shutter opens and closes, then the mirror drops back down. With "normal" exposures, this all happens in a fraction of a second. It's also highly unlikely that it's anything on or in the lens. It takes something pretty large... and very obvious... on or in a lens to show up in images.

Your camera simply needs a proper "wet cleaning".
