Some time ago in San francisco. Entered in a camera club competition and was criticized because the boy was facing his drums, not the camera. Sometimes I wonder why I bother with camera club competitions. Comments welcome.
Had the boy been facing the camera, the essence of the capture would be gone. I love the look on his face, his determination to keep the beat.
Nice shot!
Huge impact for me! So determined and focused and not the least intimidated by gear that is much larger than he
Had he been facing the camera, it would have looked posed and artificial.

Another day, another Judge, top score. A trainer of Judges commenting at a club meeting once remarked that one Judge's black could be another's white.
I like it, if you do to, that's all that REALLY matters.

You did good, the folks that didn't like it are just jealous. ;-)
Great shot and the color is good. Thanks for sharing. :-)
Great shot, love the look on his face, if he had been looking at the camera it would have lost so much as it would have looked posed.
One judge told me I was cruel to my dog as he had mud (small JR) to his belly, what she did not see was the enjoyment my dog had had playing in the woods and stream...
I agree with the other posts ... looking at the camera would have made a nice snapshot ... I think this is a very good photo ... like the others have said, I too like the expression. Nice work.
Glad that you all agreed with my feeling about the image; thanks.

IMHO, this is an excellent shot, and the fact that he is looking at the drums with that very intense expression truly makes the shot. Sorry, but the judge was just plain wrong. Best of luck.

This is what I found while in a N4C club there in the SF area (Diablo Valley CC of Martinez) with their rotating judges we could enter a photo till it won in a category - the comments varied so much between them.
My thoughts are with you - great capture.
Great shot for all the reasons the others have already stated.
Were the judges required from the local Asylum for the Blind?
