Has anyone used the Canon G7X Mark ii ? What do you think about it? I had a Canon G16 really liked it . Comparing the two which do you like better?

Bought one for my wife, but she prefers to use her older Elph model. So I use it mostly for oportunity/misc photos. The G7 series get good ratings from many Hoggers here. If you have not done so, you might want to review the various models for features important to you. This model has a faster lens than most in the series, while some are more capable in the zoom feature. I preferred the GX7 for it’s faster lens.
Sorry, I am not familiar with the G16.

I have a G9X II because a prior pocket-sized model (Sony) died after 10+ years. I like the ability to shoot RAW and to transfer images from camera to phone via WiFi when out of town. I've found the in-camera RAW conversion is slightly better than the JPEG edit tools on my phone, but I haven't spent much time looking for 'advanced tools' for my phone.

It looks like you G16 already shoots in RAW, just with a smaller sensor. Looking at the specs, I don't see much of a difference in the newer models that would justify changing unless there was something wrong (broken / lost) with your current model. If the wifi / in-camera edits are not features you need, the G7 looks like the better choice than the G9 where they're included.

The lack of an eye-level viewfinder on the G7X is a killer for me. Unless you just want the larger sensor, I would look for a good used G16 like you had. I have a G9 as a pocket camera and really like its performance and features for a compact, pocketable camera.

I was just looking at the current Powershot G-series and the logic of the feature set for each camera escapes me. Why would you want a 25x optical zoom camera without an eye level viewfinder, unless you just want to spend another couple hundred for a stick-on EVF (G3X)? Those that do have an eye-level viewfinder don’t look very compact with the SLR-like protrusion on top. Just my two cents . . .

A closer comparison to the G16 (which I love) is the G5X. It has the same optics and processor as the original G7X but includes a built in EVF. The G7X Mark II has a newer processor and supposedly better optical performance. I have used both the 5X and the 7X Mk II and prefer the handling of the latter. The 1” sensor is a step up from the G16’s, so IQ is better.

I keep being tempted by the 5X or 7X Mk II, but I really prefer the handling of my G16. I use it a lot when traveling and have on occasion left my DSLR and lenses at home for the greater convenience of the G16.

I use one and like it a lot. Very compact, shoots raw, pretty fast lens, good sized sensor.
Excellent compact travel camera.
It fits in my jersey pocket when I ride around on my bike as well.

LOVE THIS CAMERA! It was bought as a backup but has evolved into a regular carry in places I don't want to carry my DSLR now my EOS R. It has as improved my wife's photography 200%.

My daughter has the G9 II and loves it. Consumers report rates them both in the top 10.

Have owned the G7X MK II for over a year and am extremely satisfied with it. I have become very adept at not needing a viewfinder. The screen is very functional. The sensor and low light features/capabilities on it are great, thus excellent IQ. Never use the DSLR anymore. Great optics and intuitive menus. Great for travel.

The G7X has a larger sensor and more pixels but a shorter burst, 6.5 to 12 f.p.s. and the G7X body is smaller. The larger G16 has a grip which makes it easier to hang on to. No vu finder on the G7X.

Personally, even though I have mostly Canon, my 1" sensor camera has a viewfinder, is pocketable, and has a 25-250mm (35 equiv) lens for just under $500. I wouldn't get a camera without a viewfinder, and the zoom lens has greater range than the Canon G7X II for less $$.
It is a Pansonic Lumix DMC-ZS100
