A low perspective on Monument Valley...Another from the archives

This was posted elsewhere several years ago, long before the advent of our Landscape Section:
Mid-morning, on my way north out of the well-familiar “best views” region of Monument Valley, I came across a large prairie rattler slowly crossing the road and stopped well short of him . He was moving slowly and I figured he would be easy to find amidst the low desert vegetation he was entering.

After grabbing my camera cum 18-270 cum monopod and folding camp stool and heading off in casual pursuit of my quarry...he was nowhere to be found. However, after looking low under some of the larger creosote and bunny bush, and other vegetation I was struck by their willingness to serve as strong foreground compositional elements against the distant mesas and “mitten monuments”. Hence, lemonade from a lemon of a snake hunt!

For those able to free-view 3D image pairs I include a 3D Quad set to provide one more dimension to this desert scene. The top pair is for parallel gaze viewing, and the bottom pair for crossed gaze. Viewing these is generally easier on your smart phone or digital pad where touch control facilitates appropriate sizing of the images.

Unfortunately, it remains necessary - because of the actions of one persistent troll, to note that there is to be no downloading, manipulation, or reposting of these images (anywhere) without explicit permission from me.

Hi, Pat,
Thanks for looking and commenting. I appreciate knowing that crossed gaze worked better for you; that seems to be the consensus of most viewers of this image pair. This is an image I especially like and am gratified that this recent 3D conversion is a marked improvement on the results of some of my earlier experiments with this same base image.

Best regards,
Dave

Parallel is still easier for me, must be in the minority, enjoyed the view

Hi,R Dubs,
Thanks for looking and commenting.
Although the majority find crossed easier, with this one I’m with you and find parallel more comfortable. I can use either technique and with some images I may first find parallel more comfortable, but a few days later view again and find that I prefer crossed. Go figure!

Anyway, I get more of a memory of the scene I photographed with the 3D version. I hope the 3D effect is a positive one for most viewers.

Very nice image. I'm almost glad you didn't find the snake and I'm glad it didn't find you.

All my life I have used the parallel view but since starting to see these on the computer I am using more and more the crossed eye view. I can usually see them without having to resize.

Hi, Guy,
Glad to hear you are getting used to crossed gaze as well as parallel. It’s good to be able to switch off from one to the other to continue comfortable viewing.
