BBF for Fujifilm X-T3 and/or X-H1

Dear UHHers, I am not succeeding in setting up my Fujifilm cameras for BBF. The manual doesn't have an index and I haven't run across anything on the subject yet.

Any suggestions will be deeply appreciated!

I'm guessing the T2 will be similar enough to the T3.

I have no idea what “BBF” is. But I do have a FUJI camera (X-T20) and five Fuji lenses plus the 2-X extender. ...RJM

From the book Fuji X Series Unlimited by Dan Bailey:

BACK BUTTON FOCUS
Personally, I’m not a back button focus guy. I just don’t see the advantage of this method. Either that, or I’ve just being doing it the other way for so long. However, I know that there are many photographers who prefer to use back button focus, so if you’re one of those people, rest assured, the Fuji engineers have your back. At least with most cameras.
There are two different ways you can achieve back button focus on the FUJIFILM cameras. Both methods work with the newer MY MENU cameras, like the X-T2.
METHOD 1: The first way is to assign your AF-L button (or any Fn button you wish) to the AF-ON setting. This activates focus as soon as you press the button. (Press and hold DISP/BACK to bring up the Fn Button settings page.)
You’ll also want to disable autofocus from the shutter button. In the BUTTON/ DIAL SETTINGS Menu, look for SHUTTER AE/AF, and select OFF for either AF-S or AF-C, or both. This will keep the shutter button from focusing when pressed halfway.
With this configuration, you can activate focus with your selected Fn button and use the shutter button to lock your exposure and take the picture.
METHOD 2: The other way to achieve back button focus is to go into the AF+MF Menu and enable Instant AF Settings to either AF-S or AF-C. Then assign your AF-L button to ether AF-ON, AF LOCK ONLY or AF/AE LOCK. Now, if you’re in Manual focus mode, you can activate the autofocus by pressing the AF-L button.

"BBF" is "back button focus," a way in which focus is achieved by pressing a function button on the top or back of the camera, vs. by pushing the shutter release halfway down.

When I had Fuji cameras I switched the camera to manual focus with the front dial and used the AF button on the back. You could switch other buttons to do the same thing in the buttons/dial settings in the menu.

Spot on instructions. I have the X-T3 and use BBF All the time. It takes some getting used to but once you do you won’t go back. I learned this method on my recent disposed D500.

I also have found that the Fuji XT3 user manual is not so easy to find information in but as suggested by others I have made good use of the many XT2 video clips available which has covered most of my needs.

When I first started using my XT3 I found that I frequently accidentally pressed the FN2 button on the front of the body so I programmed that for my BBF button.

Please try the fn menu. I use #2-the front button. Set on af on. Camera will focus same as with shutter button. It works to use the middle finger on the front button and use index finger on shutter. Best book for XT 2 or XT 3 is by Tony Phillips, over 600 pages but well organized. I think the e book is about $30.
Good Luck

You don’t need to do anything. It’s set up already by default. Move the switch on the body to manual focus. Then when you press AF-L button it will auto focus. Voila! BBF. Of course if you have reassigned AF-L you might have a problem.
